It's the same idea as Cryo valves.  All the molecules line up and you get a "truer" metal.  Never tried it to see how true it is though.

DM Blue Steels are also cryogenically treated. They do sound brilliant and clear but not really natural IMO. I've tried a set on my Artist and they scooped out a large amount of natural mids... no mids, no character... :x

...freezing pickups must be different than freezing strings, though...

Time to get Tim down to the local Iceland store with a couple of pickups to stick in the fridge ;)

Would you undo the cryo treatment when you wax pot the pickup ?

Thing is it's hard to tell whether that's due to the cryogenics, or the fact that they're dodgy to start with...

I like DM Blue Steels and GHS Sub Zeros - I think they sound better than other strings, so there!  :D

I've tried normal steel strings before and they weren't as bright. DM also claims the extra brilliance comes from the treatment. But Elliot likes them, so...

I'm guessing that melted wax wouldn't get near to hot enough to make a difference.

You can't cryo humbuckers, only single coils - I've asked!  I bought a set of cryo Fralin p'ups from Callaham last year for my Strat along with cryo-ed electics/pots.  I have no idea how much better they are compared to non-cryo p'ups of the same type but I liked them a lot more than my Kinman Woodstocks.  They were the same price as non cryo, so I thought why not!  It's the same reason why I use GHS sub zero strings.
