which cables?

Which make of cables do you find reliable ive was originally using venom then i went to planet waves. niether have lasted very long. I dont mind spending alitlle more to get good quality. any recomendations? Can anyone recomend some good patch leads as well? Thanx

I use a Planet Waves Circuit Breaker and its lasted me almost a year now. Its also useful to note that chords with gold plated connectors transfer sound better and more clearly. They tend to be more expensive than regular cables but they're worth it in my opinion.

there was a huge long thread about this a little while back, might be worth digging it up again if your interested. I use piranha cables. They last a good long time if you treat them well (which i dont  :lol:, but i mean 1 year of mis-use before breaking... my current is a year of good use and its fine so far)  mine cost around 13.99 for around 10ft i think from a local shop but i think u can get them cheaper online.

Not wanting to sound mean, but that's completely not true when it comes to guitar cables...As a speaker cable I would say yes, but in an instrument to amp cable: no.

I hear that monster cables are meant to be fantastic, not cheap, but you can basically destroying in front of the sales man of your local monster dealer and he has to give you a new one.

I have used Whirlwind for years and can also recommend Dimarzio & George L's cables but as the guitar nuts article says  - dont be fooled by all the hype

I continue to use what I do because they have been reliable

I like Monster and Spectraflex.  I can hear a difference.  They last well, too.  I think Planet Waves are over-rated.  I have two PW cables that don't work properly and they're both only a year old or so.

I have Spectraflex - bought a whole load of different cables of different lengths & types which took care of everything in my music room + a few spares besides :)

IMO Monster are a bit of a con.  For starters they're VERY expensive.  Also, they break because the plug isn't particularly well designed.  It's much wider than the cable length, so the cable moves about in the clamp, works loose & eventually puts pressure on the solder joint - the same problem that's blighted cables for as long as there have been electric guitars :(

If you're cabling a fixed installation where nothing moves (e.g. a rack) then this isn't a problem but I wouldn't go near Monster for any cable that's going to be moved (guitar->amp, guitar->pedal, pedal->amp).  The only Monsters I still use are two of the little 8" patch cables on my pedal board.

One other cable is worthy of a mention - Whirlwind.  I had a Whirlwind Leader 18ft cable as my main guitar -> pedal cable for >10 years.  It was damn near indestructible & didn't suck the life out of the tone.

+1 on the Piranha and Whirlwind.

However (I've said it before but it's worth repeating), Award-Session make some truly excellent value leads made with Klotz cable and Neutrik jacks. It doesn't get much better than this (unless you want to pay for gnomes to stroke the molecules into alignment by the light of a full moon):

I've been using Planet Waves for ages. i still have a perfectly working planet wave cable that i've been using for 4 years now.

I use planet wave, I have never once had a problem with them failing excpet for my first one which I destoryed because I went from playing a strat to a les paul (the straigt plug doesnt do so well if you are using an lp :P) but since they have a life time warranty I took it to the store I got it from and they gave me a new one no questions asked. I see no problem with that, the first one lasted me 2 years, I now have an angled one for the les paul.

yeah, look on the front of the box says in nice print, guaranteed for life. atleast the music store tha I work at, we do it no questions ask, then just send a crate of screwed up cables back to planet waves, and they then send us a shipment of new cables to replace the messed up ones. I wont go so far as to say they dont break, they do, I see plenty of em come back , but they do seem to last alot LONGER than your typical cable and, I dunno about over there but here (canada) there price has dropped on them so they are almost the same price as your average cable. Tack on the guaranteed for life bit and you have an instant sale for me :P
