With the greatest respect myself and most of the guys here have tried all the other makes and have come to the conclusion that the BK pickups are better. So i dont see any point comparing other makes, because they dont compare. My opinion.

Believe me, what Steve says goes for most all of us (with a fortunate few who stumbled upon BK's rather early!) and we all have pretty much come to agree that BK's are better. Having said that, YES, you can draw comparisons between this EMG or Duncan or Dimarzio, BUT the BK's are always going to better in build and sound quality.

Tim once did mention that the Cold Sweats were similar to a Duncan Custom only more articulate and better bass response. Plus it uses a bigger magnet so it even drives a little harder even though it's more articulate.

EDIT: See Tim's post for a list of differences. Plus, the CS has the extra articulation scatterwinding adds to the sound, it is made using the best parts available and has a lifetime warranty. And yeah, it's more expensive in the US.

Me, too, as well as several other forum members, and many other users not active on the forum itself!

The fact is that a custom shop pup from Duncan would cost a hair less than a Bare Knuckle, and the BK are simply better.

Believe me, I'd love to be able to get my BK's "easier", but man has it been worth it. I know they're more expensive, but for a piece of handcrafted TONE, it's worth it. Believe me. [/quote]

OK, thought I'd chime in here..........SD Custom and the Cold Sweat are very different pickups-the CS has asymmetrical coils of plain enamel wire, the SDC is symmetrically wound with polysol.Secondly the ceramic magnet we use is way bigger so there's much more power on tap.A/B them side to side and tonally they're poles apart.
Dirty Fingers, well it depends if it's the original or reissue model but again it's polysol wound, symmetrical coils and 3 ceramic magnets, one in the centre and 2 flankers-totally different again to the Cold Sweat.
Incidently a SD custom shop pickup is marginally more than a regular BKP but one things for sure you'll have to wait a helluva lot longer for it and even then it won't be handwound.

Amen to that.  I've got a Duncan custom shop pickup - it was quite a lot more than a BKP and I think the wait was about 6 weeks.  To be fair though, it is a Melody Maker pickup, so they probably couldn't use many of their standard components.

Of course I'd have gone to BKP if they'd been around at the time.   :)
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

That is okay for me... i don't have to pay the UK's taxes so even after shipping I pay less for my BKPs!

If you buy Duncan you have to buy their custom shop models... but with BKP Duncan is obsolete!!!!!

I have complaints about Duncans mud and lack of mids...

Damn, you've just put me off the Cold Sweat for life :(

The Duncan Custom is a hideous, weedy, vile sounding abortion of a pickup.  The very thought it might bear the slightest resemblance to the Cold Sweat (no matter how vehemently Tim denies it) is enough to bring me out in a cold sweat at the thought of the Cold Sweat :)
