Get the Explorer. The cool factor alone is enough to beat the Ibanez.

I'm going back to try them again this week.

Yeah i am going to take my strap with me and see how they are like standing up.

Also i'm still leaning towards the Explorer, because old Ibanez guitars are always coming up in Coda and other shops, so it's not like i will never be able to get one.

But the Explorer is different because it is a well built Japanese model and it is hard to find a good Explorer without spending loads of money, e.g. Gibson.
And i don't want a cheap ESP LTD Explorer.
Also it is LTD Edition, only a few made, so i think i will take the opportunity and get that.

However, standing up and playing the guitars might make the difference. We shall see!

for an amazing metal/shred guitar, why dont you save up and buy a real made in the USA Jackson, they're quite underatted. Japaneze ones dont even come close to a real one!

Have to disagree on that ^. My MIJ Soloist was every bit as good as a USA made one.

I'd go for the Explorer - Heavy chugging is much more fun than pretending you can shred :P

But then again, I always hated the twig like neck thing Ibanez have got going on, I prefer something with a bit more meat to it :drink:

It will take ages for me to get that kind of money, and i also think some Japanese models can out play a USA made one.

My korean Dean wipes the floor with the Jap RR5 i had, and also with my USA Gibson LP.

Country of origin does not a guitar make!

I've even read threads on the HC forums where people claimed that 'USA Branded' items like hardware\pickups are 2nds\made of cheaper materials when you get them on Jap\Koren\Chinese guitars

Do people think the USA is a magical land? All the machines used in manufacturing are probably Chinese\Jap ;)

Case in point: head over to JCF forums under 'Limited Editions'.

Read the 11+ page thread about Jackson CUSTOM SHOP $3000++ orders which took a year to come, arrived with the wrong spec and made out of dodgy wood and had peeling paint.. along with bent necks and other problems... hows that for USA?

Eek ranted there....

Anyway, proof is in the playing. If a USA guitar plays well, great. If a chinese one plays well, great. Just because its not USA doesnt mean its inferior, and USA aint a-ok ;)

+1 again for the Tokai by the way! :)

The SZ series (I think thats the one anyway) have a slightly thicker neck, it feels really nice actually. I think I prefer Fender necks though  :drink:
