...for making a 1959 Les Paul copy today. This will be the fretboard - it's old growth Brazillian Rosewood, a PERFECT match for the LP. This is one of the biggest things missing on a modern Gibson reissues, the wood they put on nowadays is Indian Rosewood.

Instead of going with a very dark brown board of it like the originals, I quickly snapped this up as I love the colour of it. Should make a gorgeous looking guitar. 8)

The bit on the left might make a nice headstock veneer - still unsure on what to do with that right now though to be honest.

Pretty much - it'll take ages but should be pretty rewarding.

Haven't bought the Mahogany yet - I'm still researching prices etc.

awesome color, really like rosewood!

I've thought about it and I think that purple heart could make some nice accents in the body, as well as yellow heart wood. They both are very nice looking woods.

Bainzy - Have you been over to www.projectguitar.com? It's one of the places that I can normally be found (when I should be working). There is an absolute raft of info there for making your own guitar, as well as a good forum with loads of helpful people.

I was building a LP Double Cut but put it away for the time being until I can play better. Figured I'd better learn before my guitar collection grows out of control.

If you're a reliable sort of a bloke, I'll post you a copy of "Build your own electric guitar" by Melvin Hisc--k as long as you let me have it back.

Also, if your after a gold set of hardware, I have a spare set (Tuners, Stop Tail Piece, TOM, Neck Plate, Jack Plate, 4 Gold Knobs and all the screws and posts etc needed) I bought it for my project, but I need a chrome set now (It's all going on my Patrick Eggle instead). Again, just give me a shout.

Depending on the thinckness of that bit of the left it could make good pickup rings or the cavity covers on the back.

BEWARE - Building guitars is seriously addictve.

Many thanks for the offer on that book, but I'm about to buy a copy myself - I'd rather have my own copy as I wouldn't like to risk damaging yours, as I would imagine it's something that I'd have around me on the workbench (thus getting it dusty). Might take you up on that hardware though, I'll have a browse round at the different types first to see what's on the market.

Good call on the pickup rings / cavity covers - I'm working on the assumption that it's 1/4" thick like the fretboard, so I think it'd be best for the latter.

No worries mate. If you end up wanting me to spit the hardware then providing that I don't have any other offers, I'll do it. I'm skint at the minute, so I can't afford to buy myself a chrome set (just spent what little I do have on a Vox AD30VT). Also my headstock is drilled for Spezels and rather than redrilling, I'd prefer to put the Spezels on.

Keep us posted on progress or if you need a hand with anything.
