Just got another Les Paul & need to tell someone!!
« on: September 04, 2006, 03:01:57 PM »
It wasn't a planned purchase (I actually went to the shop intending to buy a mic) but I saw it on the wall, it ticked all my boxes for spec, I played it for a few minutes & was bowled over by how nice it was.  This really is one of the "good" ones you hear about.  There was no way I could walk out of the shop without it, so out came the credit card :)

There's only one thing it falls down on (as do nearly all Gibsons) - the pickups.  I see a BKP MM/CS set in my near future :)

Oh & I didn't buy the mic
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

ROFLMAO
Good going (am sure MC or Visa will thank ya too).

Maybe trading my MM Axis for another Les Paul myself (def. a Player, sunburst which is NOT my fave but a DEF. good LP), then more BKP's will be needed again, sheesh, never ending huh.

Does your Axis already have BK's? 'cause if it does then take them out first and replace them with the stock pups :drink:

Nope, just NOT for me (nut to small, prefer more width). Still has hang tags and original DiMarzio Custom Pups.

And, am NOT a 'sunburst' top lover. BUT, he has had the neck pro. sanded/shaved to sg Angus (i.e. '61) profile. VERY sweet player. Worth the axis and lil bit but will see how he likes my axis and where we go :)

LOL you didn't get the mic!

Sounds like you are enjoying your Les Paul though!

I can agree with that - I hate narrow necks...that's why I love my tele. But metal with a tele doesn't work, so I find myself having to compromise at times...

Currently saving up to get a custom built - BC Rich Eagle, Rebel Yells or Nailbombs (not decided yet) and a tele style neck :drink:

That's weird.  Most Teles have narrow necks!  That's the reason I like Teles.  Me with my little girly hands.

Antag, have fun with your new guitar.   :D

Hmm, maybe wide is the wrong word then...I like it because the strings seem further apart than on other guitars (my strat for example) :drink:

Yeah, possibly - but the neck appears to be wider at the nut than my other guitars (admittedly i'm just going by eye), with the exception of my 7 string :P

And I've never really played LP types - so maybe that's why I think these are fairly wide

I played some teles t'other day and one was wider than the other so I guess it depends on the model/neck profile. I preferred the narrower one, I'm used to my Epi LP though which doesnt exactly have a huge neck :)
