Opeth came in Finland for 3 or 4 festivals but the other bands basically sucked so I didn't want to pay so much just to see one band

so... when they come to tour gigs in here I'll be sure to hit 'em

Yeah, I was just a little cranky after having to sit through over 8 minutes of growling and sludge to hear 15 seconds of music.

I never really understood Opeth - Mainly 'cause it's all screaming (sorry, bad joke)

But yeah, not my choice of music

If you want to talk about talented drummers, I wouldn't rate the Opeth guy too highly - he can keep time, and has the basic metal going on and it's passable but not amazing to my mind (although I have only heard 3 of their songs)

An example of a drummer I would describe as talented can be found here :drink:

Sorry if this post seemed aggressive, it wasn't supposed to be - love to all!

the drummer aint neal peart, but he's good.. well.. he got the boot cos of drug abuse.
they got a new one. last name; Axenrot... of bloodbath previously i believe.

and that is the most metal name ever! Axe n' Rot! LOL

yea, great solo on TRTD,

and hey about the drummers talent :P Listen to "the grand conjuration". Song focuses heavily on drums

and hey growling and sludge?   . Probably oen of the few bands that really use growling to put across powerful emotions, and quite frankly, the guitar work (yes even the heavy as sh!t parts) are actually amazing. I love every riff  :D . and 8 mins to get 15 secs of "music". Sorry but just because its not your taste does not mean its not music  :? . Personally, i feel more emotion from Demon of the Fall than pretty much any other song. Just listen close, read the lyrics as you go, and just feel all the emotion. The discordant heavy riffery makes me feel like tearing out a loved ones heart, while the melodic ending makes me want to sob..... well not sob but its just damn powerful  :P

Sorry bit of a rant, but Opeth really are the pinnacle of amazing songwriting in my opinion.

Petre

To Rid The Disease
love the song

In My Time Of Need is the best song off Damnation imo tho
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoY5NU6Aas4
very emotional and kinda depressing

and about Demon Of The Fall, imo its one of the Opeth's most emotional songs if u understand it, but if u dont, then its just some random growling

and then about Martin Lopez, he is a kickass drummer! I don't know about Axenrot cuz I havn't heard any of his drumming
so if u want to hear some awesome drumming check this out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsO94_22Bgs

(you can also see Martin Mendez's weird headbanging there :P)
