Breedlove Acoustic guitars
« on: September 19, 2006, 03:31:44 PM »
I was looking for a nice 12-string acoustic guitars and I came up with this:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Breedlove-Atlas-AJ250SF12-Plus-12String-Jumbo-AcousticElectric-Guitar?sku=512415

As said, I'm VERY tempted to buy that later on cuz my many years old acoustic sucks
I read that Breedloves are very good quality compared to the price
and tops many 'higher' brands easily in that price range

Anyone have any experiences with Breedloves or have something to say about 'em?

Yes, lots of experience with em. They are great guitars, and the small waist is great for short ppl like myself!

Haven't played one of their guitars but would love to. I have played my mate's Breedlove mandolin though and it was lovely, he also had a cheap mandolin and the side by side comparison was startling.

There are lots of great flat top acoustic guitars you might have an easier time finding. Here's a short list:

1. Breedlove
2. Santa Cruz
3. Collings
4. Rainsong
5. Vintage Martins (1970 or earlier)
6. Higher-end Guilds
7. Higher-end Gibsons

yea but those High-End Gibsons and Guilds would cost hell a lot money :?
and I can't find any Santa Cruz', Collings' or Rainsongs anywhere

Also I'd like it to be 12-string as I already said and preferably with a cutout to get access to the higher frets

Breedloves are good quality for the price, definitely.  Many of them have this random pole in the middle of it that increases your bass output as well.  Can't go wrong there...

The one thing you can do better for the price is look for an old guild, from '62 or whenever they started until about 1985.  They aren't worth that much... should be able to pick up a nice one for no more than $600usd, but IMO they're a much better guitar and much better buy obviously than Martins or Taylors.  My father owns four of them, so I get to play them all the time.... my favorite is a early 80s F50, kinda like a Gibson J200 but with better wood and a better fretjob (and it's heavier too but sounds a lot better than all the J200s I have played).  The bridge is high, original height but it sounds so full and sustains forever, and his most recent addition to the collection is a G37 which is a dreadnaught shaped guitar with maple back and sides.... a smaller, lighter version of the F50.

Look used.  As I just said my father owns 4 Guilds.  The most he paid for any of them is $600, and most were under $300.
