Judas Priest - Beyond The Realms of Death

still my favourite band, and a powerful track

Ron Jarzombek - Solitarily Speaking of Theoretical Confinement, one of the most mental guitar albums I can think of, featuring a track in 65/64, among other craziness.

Venetian Snares - Detrimentalist, insane drum and bass, all over the place in terms of sounds and time sigs.

Exotic Animal Petting Zoo - I Have Made My Bed in Darkness, amazing mix of spacey rock a la Mars Volta, mixed with Sigur Ros, Dillinger Escape Plan, and Glassjaw. Possibly one of my favourite finds of recent months.

Everytime I die - Gutter Phenomenon.

Love this album.

'Tis a beast indeed, was listening to it earlier.

Chinese Democracy

(Funny, I was going to put "Guns n' Roses" there, but it didn't seem right or necessary... )

Never expected to be saying this, but (on first listen) I am absolutely LOVING this!  :o :D

It's sprawling, pompous, messy and the heavily-processed percussion and guitar sounds seem oddly dated at times (there is a TON of guitar on this album).  The shred guitar seems weird in Gn'R... but this isn't really Gn'R.  If the original band still existed they would never have made this record.  But... it sounds huge, Axl's singing is terrific (and I was never really a fan of his voice) and, goddammit, the songs themselves are great!

Yeah, it's nothing like Appetite.  But I must have listened to that record 1,000 times so hearing something so fresh(!) and different is a totally unexpected pleasure.

OK... start flaming me now...

THANK YOU... you said it first... I was lonely and ashamed... now I can talk about it.

I really do quite like it, quite a lot really.  :? :? :? :( :( :D :D

I was thinking I'd gotten away with that post, but now someone's going to have a pop....

.... but then you only go an' agree with me!

I've listened to it several times now... and still loving it.  Listening to it right now, in fact.

i think i like it too...  i think.  obviously, after all these years there are expectations and preconceptions to get past.  but when i listen to it i think, this is high quality.  it's well crafted and Axl's voice has changed, it's not as feral as it used to be, but it sounds great.  i do think it lacks variety, the songs seem to all be of similar tempo.  and there aren't really songs that stand out, not yet anyway.  a couple are starting to catch hold in my mind, but then, the best albums are usually the ones that take a while to get a handle on.  i didn't like Appetite For Destruction the first time i heard it!

maybe in a while Better or Riyadh and the Bedouin will sit with Coma, Rocket Queen and Estranged on my best of G'N'R cd :)

The only track I've heard off Chinese Democracy that was ok was Better.. but then it has stupid guitar solos and lead fills if I remember correctly, which totally ruins it.

It ain't GnR but it is SOMETHING worth investing a little time into... I have to say "I can't stop listening to Better"

Sweeps... Not GnR.... Semi- Electronic Soundscapes... Not GnR...

But it's got something I love there and I'm giving the album a fair chance.

Dammit. I was hoping the new GnR would be rubbish so I could have the fun of taking the piss. But now that it's decent, I can't help but feel a little disappointed  :)
