Rory - Fresh Evidence

I got all the remasters a couple of months ago, working my way through chronologically (and very slowly).  I'm up to Against the Grain.

My favorite two Rory albums are "Photo Finish" and "Top Priority" even though they are his least blues based albums.

Cheers Stephan

i'm not sure about "Fresh Evidence", I do like it, but its not my usual cup of tea. its going down quite well this afternoon though. good friday music. i'll try Against The Grain now..

Avatarium - Avatarium

This is a project led by Candlemass' Leif Edling.  Proper old-fashioned, doomy but very melodic metal.  Really enjoying it on first listen.

Avenged Sevenfold - Hail to the King

I must admit, I don't know much about this band's previous material... I always saw their haircuts and silly names and assumed they would play that annoying "melodic bit/shouty bit" kind of music, which I can't stand.

But I heard a couple of tracks from this and really liked them, so I thought what the hell.  And it is $%&#ing good.

Fair point.

To me they sound like a cross between Metallica and Guns 'N Roses.  But that's not a terrible thing to sound like.  GNR aren't doing anything and Metallica have been shite for years.

I do know where you're coming from!  But as I say, I liked the couple of tracks I'd heard from this album, and when it appeared in Amazon's Black Friday week I thought I'd give it a go.  I don't think the're going to be my new favourite band or anything like that.

Rory - Defender

Sadly over produced..

I've been listening to Monster Magnet-The Last Patrol, which we were talking about a couple of weeks ago.  It arrived late, despite being ordered direct from the record company!  better than last time, when they lost my order entirely and refused to do anything about it.  I had said i wouldn't buy off them again, but i only remembered that after i'd ordered the new one

Anyway, pretty good album.  It does seem to hark back to the sound of their first couple of records, but a bit more focused.  not quite as many psyche out noise bits :)
cry HAVOC!! and let slip the pigs of war!!!
