I have been enjoying this guy's rants about metal, they are pretty much spot on!

Yngwie - Marching Out

Great album, first time I listened all the way through. It might be my favourite from him actually.

Hands down my favourite Malmsteen recorded tone.

A few cool CDs thanks to the insane Google Play download deals!

  • Holst - The Planets. It's one of those CDs that you recognise almost every movement of.  I love the story about Geezer Butler playing Mars at an early Black Sabbath rehearsal, and the next day Iommi returning the Black Sabbath riff!
  • Rory Gallagher - Top Priority.  Don't have much by him, only Tattoo, which is OK.  But I love Top Priority, really good songs, and great playing.
  • AC/DC- Back In Black.  Enough said.

Mars was one of the most-quoted themes for sci fi and fantasy sound tracks for a while in the 70s and 80s. It's an interesting piece (the entire Planets suite); I view it as very early symphonic prog. :)[/list]

I have been listening to a lot of Kaipa and Magic Pie lately; both are stellar bands.

Kaipa, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHuMHiqmkJ0

Magic Pie, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7X_VBHlnG8

Also, a lot of Jellyfish; this band was just simply amazing!  Take the Beach Boys, The Beatles, Queen, and mash em together, and this is what you get! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JojV8kNfWK8

Lastly, been digging on Kings X Dogman again; such a brilliant album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPLSib2GtnU

Jellyfish were a pretty cool band, I hadn't listened to them in a long time, but I'll be digging them back out now.  Wasn't their bass player or guitarist the singer in Slash's first solo band?  I remember thinking that was an odd change

Yeah, Eric Dover.  I don't think he's actually on the Jellyfish albums though, he was just a touring guitarist or something.  Then he was in Imperial Drag which was, sort of, Jellyfish under a different name.

I've got those Slash's Snakepit and Imperial Drag albums and the first Jellyfish album, but I can't say I'm a big fan or any of them.

You will probably find Spilled Milk to be more enjoyable than Bellybutton when it comes to Jellyfish; Spilled Milk is more Queen influenced and has a (sightly!) harder edged.

Picked up Judas Priest's Rocka Rolla - from a pile of cds left on the street by someone who had moved out.  Never been into JP and certainly not the 1980s stuff that they put out when I was young.  But I find this a great album.
BKPS: Milks, P90s, Apaches, Mississippi Queens, Mules, PG Blues, BG FP 50s, e.60s strat custom set

Monolith, by Kansas. For some reason, I never owned this album, so I purchased it yesterday. It's great!!
