Mrs 38th (she of impeccable taste) bought a live Robert Cray cd.I know that he is not to everyone's taste but I like Mr Cray.He plays clean and you can hear everything he does.

Lets hear it for Mrs 38th!  :D Have you seen him play on Eric's Crossroads DVD? Very very soul bearing performance and he sings the notes as he plays them when he really lets go on a solo!  8)

I'm not a fan, he's far too polite for me.  But he has damn fine taste in guitars.

Oh, and as I'm slightly pissed at the moment, I'm going to admit that this week I've been listening to Winger.  Reb rools....

Is that the new Winger album? I had a quick go in Tower records and it seemed a lot heavier than their older stuff.

Me too.. Seventeen is the only one I've actually heard though but it has some good riffs and the solo is great.

I wouldn't call it heavier, but it's more "mature" sounding.  Almost a bit proggy at times, but unfortunately Kip's "serious singer-songwriter" side is much in evidence.  There's hardly any of that bouncy, shiny pop metal sound from the first two albums (unfortunately).

Only listened to it a couple of times though, need to let it grow on me...

Robert Cray is superb, I particulary like the line from The Score "and your story wasn't fittin' any better than your dress". Just says it all really, that and he's yet another guitarist who shows the high standard of technique that is needed to pull off playing with a clean guitar sound without needing to descend into the depths of widdledom. Phenominal artist!  8)

just had a little Steve Vai phase for the last few days, although i'm still listening to the Wildhearts in the car, and i'm quite enjoying the Kreator cd i got.  the Beatles Love sounds good, but i want some quality time to listen to the DVD-A surround version, so that'll have to wait a few days

also, at three o'clock this morning found myself listening to Mattias Eklund while having a nice cup of tea :?
cry HAVOC!! and let slip the pigs of war!!!

I think he does it well, it's dressed up in a nice sounding delivery but it's pretty stinging stuff!

I never got in to Winger. I've heard of them but seem a bit geeky for my tastes!

I just picked up, for a fiver !, a CD and DVD of Eric Clapton playing Robert Johnson songs( called Sessions for Robert J).The DVD is superb-informal footage of "Ricky" and the guys rehearsing. His voice is fantastic on this and , to me, his playing is coming from somewhere special.I know he particularly loves Johnsons stuff and it shows. The band features the late great Billy Preston and some lovely slide from Doyle Bramhall 11
( that is not a football team btw). Also listening to a lot of Muddy Waters and Big Bill Broonzy. Mrs 38th & I are both fond of blues.
