I am a trifle wordy tonight Willo you are correct. Feeling very mellow as I have been drinking a rather fine wine and listening to a Muddy Waters album. A wonderful antidote to a rather trying day.

I've got to pip in on the intonation issue because I was guilty of EXACTLY the same when I was younger.

I've always loved symmetry so I set the saddles so that they LOOKED good.

Once I realised that was not the optimal situation I felt like a bit of a twit.

That guitar just cant be right.. can it?

You have to use an electronic tuner and get the 12th fret harmonic spot on.

(nice guitar by the way)     :D

You need to check if the 12th fret and the 12th fret harmonic are the same. The 24th fret is even more accurate if you've got one :)
edit: don't worry so much about the G though, that'll never be in tune unless you get an Earvana nut (see feline) or a Buzz Feiten (the set up, not the guitarist, he would be too big and make the guitar hang funny on your strap).

It's hard to explain in words, but a correctly intonated set of Strat saddles should normally look something like the picture below.  It's like two sets of "steps" next to each other.

To set the intonation, get hold of an electronic tuner and, for each string, compare the harmonic at the 12th fret with the fretted note.  If the fretted note is flat compared with the harmonic, the saddle needs to be moved further forward towards the bridge pickup ("FFF" = Fret Flat Forward).  If the fretted note is sharp, move the saddle further back, and so on until the fretted note is the same as the harmonic.

If you repeat this process for all 6 strings, re-tuning the guitar as you go along, the saddles will probably end up looking like the pic.

Ohhh, i thought you meant the fine tuners.

But i have no idea how to do any of that so i'll leave it for time being.

That is the best instruction I have read for a long time.

Joe, once you work out the intonation business you will notice the difference, but it's feckin hard to explain.
