Just thought of another unsung (or at least undersung) hero --- Terje Rypdal.  He was actually one of the first guys to make me want to pick up a guitar!  He's one of those musicians that I can only dream about being 1/77th as good as by the time I'm 100 or so.   :harp:

He's great, sometimes his playing reminds me of a mixture of Satriani, Beck, and ...err.. Hank Marvin!

More under-sung heroes:

Bernie Torme
Micky Moody
Derek St. Holmes
Dick Dale (though something of an acquired taste, admittedly)

Shaman :
Waddy Wachtell(grooovy hair), I only know him as a producer.

Philly :
Eric Bell, I have seen him on stage so many times and a damned good player
Randy California : I'm glad somebody else remembers him

Err,
No real shredders in here but are almost totally forgotten (or should I say ignored)
Zal Cmenson (Alex Harvey Band & Nazareth)
Robbie McIntosh (Lots of sessions, Talk Talk, The Pretenders, Paul McCartney)
James Honeyman-Scott (The Pretenders), not flash just tasteful
Mick Green, (The Pirates, Van Morrison, Paul McCartney)
Wilco Johnston (Dr Feelgood)
Lyle Workman (Beck, Alice Cooper, Todd Rungren)
Syd Barrett
Mick Ronson
Tim Renwick (Floyd, Al Cooper, Bowie)
Adrian Belew (Talking Heads, Bowie & King Crimson (but I will forgiver him for that bit))

Infact any of Bowies guitarists (including Reeves Gabriels & Peter Frampton)
Goodbye London !

Wilco Johnston (Dr Feelgood)

Plays 'Semi' regularly with his current band at my local venue :)

Was asked if he could borrow my gear for a gig but I had a gig myself that same night so he couldn't
Selling lots of gear, enquire within!......

Excellent, a totally underrated and forgotten guitarest.

Though to be honest I think you can only appreciate what he does in a live situation

the electric guitar of Richard Thompson (as opposed to his much vaunted acoustic playing) - unfortunately dross in places, but some outstanding electric playing throughout his career - in fact, to me, better than his Jansch like acoustic stuff.

When Richard is on the with electric stuff, he is on.  Some inspired playing that doesn't sound like what anyone else would play in the same space.  Good stuff!

Martin Barre - electric folk at its best!!

Martin Barre is, and always has been, a personal god for me.  I wish he played with more oomph these days, but hey ....

Leslie West - great P-90 tones when he was with Mountain

I'm not sure if he's as forgotten as he used to be! I have it in mind that I've seen a lot of name-checking on West/Mountain in recent years ....

I went down to London with a bunch of mates to see the Richie-Scarlet-on-bass Mountain line-up a few years back.  The band pretty much rocked like bar-stewards.
