Ceramic Warpig Pics (Problem Solved!)
« on: January 05, 2007, 04:49:40 PM »

It is measured at 21.6K, looks very nice. One question, with warpigs there are 2 rows of screws so it doesn't matter which way they go up right?
Installation was easy apart from getting the wire through the hole to where the pots were, it just kept coiling up and not going through, but then i taped it to a guitar string which guided it round.

Havn't had a chance to crank my amp up yet so through the low volume they are sounding pretty much the same, but that was kind of expected.

Ceramic pigs shipped with a set of 9s? What is the world coming to?

It probably doesn't make a massive difference which way round the pickup is but it's supposed to be with the wires coming out of the side closest to the floor as you play.

Different companies probably make them different ways, I just remember hearing that's how BKPs are supposed to be.

It looks excellent  :D , glad you still have the all-gold look on the guitar.

The big question is, did you remove the strings to fit the pickup?

Yes, then restringed it with those Framus ones, which was a big mistake because now they are 9's which means snappy snap snap snap!

I'm a bit worried about the pig though because i am getting no pinch harmonics from it, on the stock before i couldn't get any so i thought it was the laney being shite at harmonics, but i can always get them on the neck, and for some reason the middle position is now a screaming monster, it's like that is the warpig and not the bridge, but it has to be right because it is the right way up, and it is definatley soldered all right.

Strange.  Is the middle position actually louder than the bridge pickup, or is it brighter, or both?

I still reckon the guitars original wiring might be wrong, sounds like the middle toggle position is bridge instead of both pickups on together.. You say its less bassy than the bridge position aswell, I always find my middle position to be bassier than bridge by itself.

It is a lot brighter than the bridge, but the harmonics are huge!

I have to say it has more a warpig sound to it, though the bridge position has a lot more bass.

Also when the volume is rolled back the bridge is a lot cleaner than the middle. I'm getting a feeling that the Warpig is in the middle position...

Hence why I think theres something wrong in the wiring!

What you're describing is exactly what I get when I switch to the middle setting on my LP - more bass due to the neck pickup being used. When I switch to the bridge setting its brighter, more bite and easier to get harmonics.. I'd get it looked at or totally rewire the guitar if you feel up to it.

One way of checking is to set you pickup selector to the bridge position while your guitar is plugged in and tap something like a coin against the screws on both pickups and if both pickups produce sound through your amp then it's wired wrong.

Or pass a ringing tuning fork over both pickups on each selector position (about 1"-1½" above the strings) to see which pickup is picking-up...

None of the positions make any sound when that happens, i did it with a pound coin.

Try a screwdriver or a piece of metal that is magnetic. I think that the metal needs to be attracted to magnets (i.e. steel not aluminium), but if you're uncomforable using a screwdriver then a small bit of steel or something. I usually use whats in my hand when I'm working on a guitar (usually a screw driver).

What about a whammy bar?

I used that and nothing happened. Usually earphones work too but it didn't work either...

I also tried screws which are magnetic because they stuck to it, i tried the end of a usb thingy, a guitar lead and another jack thingy, none of them made a sound.
