ben- i agree with you that the quality isnt necessarily bad if its a licensed trem...

but there definitely are guitars under £1500 with OFR's... quite a few in fact...

just off the top of my head this is one for example:

That's why I usually try to avoid absolute statements   Now that you've said it I can think of a few too.

I am not looking for an average korean line guitar, i want something that sounds good and that is made well, like a prestige ibanez. And most (not all!) of the guitars with those licensed floyds generally do not wow anyone if you know what i mean.

Edge Pro is completely different tremolo to the licensed floyds, it is made for ibanez guitars. It is used by professionals and is reknown for being a worthy opponent to the OFR, some even say it's better, so i don't know what point you are trying to make there because if you asked someone to choose either a LFR or an Edge Pro then we know which one would win.

Kahler is a different design. Many pros use Schaller and Takeuchi Floyds, but anyway, most pros use what they're paid to use regardless of whether or not they think it's any good.

woops about kahlers then

but yer precisely.

point is- it doesnt have to be an edge or an OFR to be any good.

some even say it's better
Most notably Ibanez's marketing dept. While there are a couple of minor structural advantages to the edge, in terms of tone and cinstruction the OFR kicks it's ass every time.

It's nice to see Joe's being his usual consistent self, he starts a thread asking about £300-£400 guitars, and then starts going on about how he's looking to get a £600-£800 guitar

Sam : Pot kettle calling black the, rearrange into a proular phrase :)

Your right actually,

The edge indeed is based on the Floyd, it's just been developed by Ibanez into a recognised item name in it's own right. Ibanez have also produced some let us say not so successful variations of the floyd bridge too, but because it says Edge in it theyre still purchased.

The more interesting Ibanez bridge is the ZR on the S Series, though it definately feels different to the Floyd based ones. it's real nice though I don't know if Ibanez bought the design in or not.

The issue with liscensed floyds is, down to the build and material quality of each mfgr. Certainly the Schaller units are good enough for mortals like us.

Look at the company Wilkinson, they do inexpensive and reasionable quality guitar hardware (for the most part), yet boutique makers proudly proclaim that they use Wilkinson hardware.

You pay £2K for a guitar with the same bridge (& tuners) as a £300 quid guitar, how does that work. Simple it's not the name it's a reliable design and decent materials.

Don't critisise it because it's not an OFR, critisise the makers of poor quality versions.

Rob..

My LFR is fine... smooth, easy divebombs... its great! i'm going to get some new strings soon so i'll see if it handles a restring well... instead of falling apart  :)
one problem i've encountered with it is that the stock arm is slightly too small for the hole, but i'm going to replace that  :D

my point is, the LFR is absolutely fine and does it's job well: don't judge a guitar by it's trem!

Ok you can get some licensed floyds that are good, but on razorbacks they have to be good because that was dimebag's primary tool for guitar destruction (if that makes any sense).

But the rest of the guitar is going to be different. Does anyone know where those Razorback V's are made? If it is Japanese i will think about it, but i have seen some real nice ibanez guitars which will take a lot to beat.

Joe, all of the current Vs are made in the USA, but as you have seen, they are bringing out not just more USA razorback Vs, but a few Korean/Chinese made Vs too.
