What do ya think about the Mustaine Dean?

I was really worried that it would have the "wing" headstock like the Razorback or the ML but thankfully (to my taste) it's more conventional.

I'm quite interested to give one a go, especially this flamed limited model.

Wow.

It doesn't have the headstock.

I'm more shocked than anything else...

That is one ugly guitar, it's not as nice as his ESP's... but Dean still make some bitchin' guitars.

It looks much nicer in pictures of it from people cameras. The photoshop picture makes it look horrid.

The shape and wood is cool but the headstock and inlays are just horrible.

Dave changes endorsements like underwear lately.

The ESP was basically a copy of the Jackson but with a more conventional bridge, and this looks like a copy of the ESP - even the headstock is just an uglier version of the ESP headstock.  And the inlays are ridiculous.

If all he wants is a Jackson copy, why not go back to Jackson?  If he wants a Dean, let it look like a Dean.

Oh wait, maybe there are $$$$$ involved.  And Dean is a fashionable brand at the moment.

I think it looks awesome, though the bridge would be better without that stupid v plate and just as a normal string thru.

I think I read on the Jackson forum that he bought a load of custom shop models in 2006 (around 20 maybe?!) so maybe that's what he'll play, and the Dean is what he'll endorse 8)

Well he did try to buy Jackson, and then they shafted him, and he had a falling out with ESP.
I like it, and I'm not even really a V man. The photoshopped image there is a bit flat, and the headstock is a little indistinct in the picture. Looks much classier in photos. Unfortunately the quilt finished USA built ones are a limited run of 150
It's interesting you feel that Dean is a fashionable brand Philly, as if you go over to the Dean forum they have the opposite impression.
As for the headstock, that's the Dean 6 in a line headstock, so if he wanted 6 in a line then that's what he got (plus from Deans point of view it's the same style as the Rusty Cooley 7 string, which is made in the same factory). While it probably would have looked cool with a bevelled V headstock, it would probably have been too similar to the Razorback V.

Just my impression, but I'm an old codger so I'm probably as out of touch with guitar fashions as I am with everything else.  Certainly on this forum Dean seems to be popular with the young 'uns.

It's only been a few years(?) since the relaunch of the brand, then there were all the Dime models - seems like about 150 of 'em - and now there are quite a few high-profile endorsements from people like Michael Schenker and Trivium, whoever they may be (just kidding   ).  And it seems to be taking over from Schecter as the most-advertised mid-price brand in the guitar mags.

Actually, there doesn't seem to be any one brand dominating the market nowadays.  Not like the 80s, when everyone had Jackson, then Kramer, then Ibanez.  Or was it Kramer then Jackson?
