Just seen Paul Gilbert.
With Bruce Bouillet!!!

How can I explain this gig?
The playing was insane, the shredding was intense but really, really musical!
He came on stage with his doubleneck and played Get Out Of My Yard, Bruce was the human capo, they then played a few more songs from GOOMY and Paul also changed to his custom reverse-Iceman. Next up there were some Racer X songs (ever seen businessmen in suits pogoing to Scarified?), some more GOOMY and then a version of Eruption orchestrated for full band! Next were a selection of vocal tunes played on his old bright red RG and maybe some more GOOMY. When he started playing 2 Become 1 I was a little put off but for the solo the whole band launched into the solo from Stairway To Heaven, and then went back to the Spice Girls, finishing with a bit of Sabbath's Sweet Leaf. Paul's wife played keyboards on a few songs and next we had a selection from Mr Big including Green Tinted Sixties Mind and Addicted To That Rush (with a slide solo from Bruce). A few more cover tunes were thrown in from The Beatles, Todd Rundgren and Thin Lizzy and they ended with a real killer of a tune written by Paul's uncle Jimmy Kidd.

The band were so tight, especially for the first night of the tour. It was so cool to see Paul and Bruce trading licks again after all this time and the rest of the band     (quote from PG's website)
".......
Mike Szuter: Lead Bass
Jeff Bowders: Lead Drums" were great too.

The best news of all is that I'm going again tomorrow :D

I've wondered wby Paul hasn't done G3 and I wonder if it has anything to do with Billy Sheehan? Maybe there was bad blood after he left Mr Big.

Scarified is the greatest shred anthem in the world !!!

Funny you should mention, I started learning it a few weeks back (Yes, I am a fool..)

I can play the main theme and that little semi-sweep bit that comes next, but then i gave up, feeling totally inadequate (oh, poor Muz).

Billy Sheehan rocks but i'm still recovering from seeing him in those disgusting tight shiny red latex pants that he wore in Tokyo for the 2005 G3 tour... Shudder

Holy shitee,
Just got back from the second gig... it seems the first one, as good as it was, was just a warm up because tonight they were on fire! I'll try and write more tomorrow when I've calmed down.

You lucky beggar.. does Paul ever tour the UK? I really want to go see him live sometime as, to me, he is the ultimate guitarist and my favourite "shredder".

This would make a great topic.

I would like to see Guthry Govan, along with any of the above mentioned.

Yeah his last one was in Letchworth. I went, he was mind blowing. That's what got me into Laneys  :D

To be frank I couldn't care about Paul gilberts so much these days but I'm very interested that Bruce was back with him. I heard so many rumours that he had damaged his hand and couldn't play again, I really liked him in Racer X, instrumental stuff only forget about the singer. Hey u guys understand why awesome shred guitarists always form a band and have the worst singer in the world, check out blues Saraceno he had this band with the WORST singer I ever saw in a pro band.

Jeff Martin was a good drummer though - was later in Badlands with Jake E Lee after Eric Singer vacated the drum stool

Speaking of Eric Singer - his band Eric Singer Project are coming over in March
Band Lineup is:

John Corabi - vocals and Guitar (Union/Motley crue & The Scream with Bruce Boulliet)
Bruce Kulick on lead guitar (Kiss/ Meatloaf/Grand Funk/Blackjack & Michael Bolton)
Eric Singer on drums
Chuck Garrick (Alice Cooper band) on bass and vocals

Songs will be by Motley/Kiss/ Union etc

Saw a similar lineup 18 months ago playing as Union and it was one of the best gigs I have seen - miss it at your peril

^ Bruce Kulick, eh? He kicked ass in Kiss' 80's incarnation.
