4 conductor wiring installation help
« on: February 22, 2007, 11:57:21 AM »
i have only had 2 conductor before so i need some help.

The ground wire on 2 conductor wass really thick and i had to pull a load of material back to reach it.

On 4 conductor the wires are already out and the ground wire is really thin, if it's the one i'm thinking of which is just plain wire.

Also on the Ibanez ones there is a red wire and a red wire which then turns white, i'm guessing on the bkp the red is the red wire and the red that turns 2 white is the black wire?

normally on seymours 4 conductors if your not splitting the pickup you solder the green and white wires together and tape them up, then get the ground and black wire and solder them to the top of the pot, then the red is normally the hot wire.... but i dont think the bkp wiring is the same but it will be something near

BK wiring is in FAQ section and also is printed on the spec sheet that comes with the pickup, however on 4 conductor they come with the white and green soldered together and shrink wrapped.  Leave it alone unless you are doing coil splits.  The red is live and the black and plain wire go to ground.
So many pickups, so little time

Red = hot.  This goes either on the pickup selector (where you removed the wire for the old one) or a terminal on the volume pot (middle is out, one of the outside terminals will probably be bent onto the body of the pot, you solder to the one that isn't)

Black AND plain are ground (you need to solder both to the groundpoint, usually back of vol pot)

Green & White = for coil splitting only, should come soldered & taped together.  Leave them unless you want to coil split.

+1 on metalgod's comment about scr@ping old cr@p of the iron.  I asked about the wattage because you need at least 25 (I think BKP documentation even says this).  Trying to get a 2-con wire off with a 12 watt (as I once attempted ) is an exercise in frustration & brute force....

right dude you can do the pickup i have faith in you.... just sit back and relax and have a think about it, guitar wiring is simple after you think about it.... all you need to do is leave the 2 wires together and then solder the red to the pot ermmm middle grub thing and the other wire to the top of the pot along with the earth or ground wire....

and if the floyd has raised you need to screw the 2 screws in, be sure to detune it abit just under normal tuning before you screw it.... it'll take awhile to do it but it feels so much better knowing how to sort your guitars out yourself.... pd you can find loads of info on setting up floyds on the internet

I know i can do it if i do it again but i don't have any time to do it now, the whole point of doing it today was that i had the time to do it.

It will take years to do everything again.

Right going to try again tonight.

What wires go to what, i am a dumbass so i don't understand the diagrams.

It's HSH with a 5 way switch, there is a red wire a black wire and a stripped wire.

Before the Ibanez humcuckers has one fat wground wire like a braided 2 going to the pot, then had 2 small wires (a red and a white one) going to 2 different tags on the switch. That's for each humbucker so altogether there was 6 wires.
