ok i so got a problem with my cheapo telecaster when it turned up in the mail.

on the Bstring at the 17th fret it makes and E# and at the 18 fret it makes an E# but the 16 is a D and the 18 is supposed to be an E# so how can i fix it?

you may have a low or high fret. does it affect just that one string?
I too use chicken as a measurement.

yeah just that one string and just there which is funny because the natural harmonics are fine.
Adnd i know theres no real such thing as E# its F (just for the hairsplitters)

Your 18th fret is high relative to the 17th

It may be loose in its slot and need pushing back inand glueing in place
then a quick levelling of that area would be a good idea too

A small localised fret dress is what i would prescribe - plus having the 18th fret secured as described above

May be worth having a tech look at it

You wont be able to tell unless you lie a small straight edge over 3 frets (17/18/19) and see if it rocks back and forth

Have someone look at it if you are unsure

ok ive just used a straight edge and it appears that the 15th, 16, and 17th frets are lower then the rest. So its not a question of having the 18th fret too high but the other three too low. damn i'm gonna have to buy a new neck and swineheads not BKP now :(

Effectively the same thing though - the 18th sits higher relative to the ones below it

It may well be rectifiable , but will probably cost you to have done
Depends on the value of the guitar whether you see it as worth it
