The Dean is a good choice, and you can pick up a Maverick F1 or X1 for £400-and-a-bit, very nice guitars.

i'd try mavericks before you buy - a lot of people love them, but a lot also hate them. The F1 i tried had odd controls, and to me the neck felt strange....

I hated the F1 - The neck was odd and it all seemed so cheap :S

I'd like to try the Dean, but if I get a particularly good offer at LGS - I'll be leaving with a new axe.

mr.pig (steve) was selling something like that rgt42 on here, but with a giger print and warpigs for something ridiculously low (sub £500 i think!) a year or two back; shame you weren't here!

UPDATE: noone bought it on here, so in the end it went on th'ebay for £550 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7418064057&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1

This thread only further serves to heighten my hard-on for an Ibanez S470.

Tried the Dean - Sucked arse, the LFR felt like plastic, it looked like cr@p, and the Inlays are worse in person than in photos.

Tried the LAG - Was ok, but nothing special.

Tried the RG - Was so $%&#ing amazing that I bought it on the spot.

Here's some photos I just took:

Shreds and squeals amazing well - Amazing smooth neck compared to alot of RGs I've played with "Satin" maple necks which your hand squeaks and sticks to.

The finish on the neck makes it super super sleak, like the one on my Viper but thinner and more shred.

The fretboard is also superb, even though I thought I didn't like Rosewood - Totally changed my mind.

Fret access - It's neck through - Nuf said - But I'll say anyway, 24th fret is as easy to hit as the 5th.

The bridge is superb, and MUCH better than the shite I played on the cheap Deans and Jacksons/LAG etc.

The sound is SUPERB. INSANE amounts of Sustain - And I'm honestly very suprised by the pickups - Not nearly as weak and toneless as I thought they would be - That being said, they'll be replaced eventually - even if it's for cosmetics

The gun metal hardware looks freaking awesome too, and the inlays are beautiful with their 2 tone look.

The 5 way is sturdy and you won't switch accidentaly like on Strats, same with the Knobs (number of times I've accidentaly turned to half guitar volume on my viper), that's not gunna happen here - But ofcourse it will wear out and become very spinable - but that's what happens.

Action came perfect, very low, and very smooth - absolutely NO fret buzz ANYWHERE, and the intonation is set up perfectly - I was VERY suprised, especially since it was Korean built.

All in all an absolutely FANTASTIC guitar, and easily good enough to stand beside my viper, and in my opinion even good enough to compete with my mate's M2.

niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice

but i've decided against buying a floating trem guitar ever again. they now annoy me when restringing, and i've had enough. it may even ruin the neck of my razorback

convert a floating trem to a fixed/tune-o-matic bridge?
anything other than the tremel-no

Have 2 guitars then - 1 stop tail, 1 locking trem.

Why? What do you have against Tremol-No's?

I'm pleased that the guitar I suggested with so much enthusiasm is the one you bought  :D  It's great to know that there is somebody else on this board who uses an RGT42. When I bought mine it only came in pearlescent black, which I do like, but I must say that yours looks incredible; really gorgeous. I also post on another board and some of those Prestige Ibanez snobs keep saying I should have bought a Prestige model - something I've always refuted due to my love of the thru-neck. At last someone can confirm my own assessment that the RGT42 is a simply awesome guitar for the money. I've had mine a couple of years now and there simply isn't anything else I'd even consider buying for the same kind of money and it sounds like you feel exactly the same.

Why? What do you have against Tremol-No's?

to install one, you have to take EVERYTHING in the back of your floyd to bits, then you have to get absolutely everything perfectly lined up afterwards when you put them back on. plus, the idea of removing the screws holding the springs doesn't sound like a good idea to me.
