Squeal Time!
« on: April 23, 2007, 11:25:29 PM »
I just realised that I have about £400 to spend on something - And since my birthday's on Thursday I'm going to treat myself!

As I'm getting a new amp if I get good GCSE results from my parents (Hello there ENGL Screamer :>) I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a guitar for £400 with a locking trem.

1. It needs a locking trem, not neccesarily an OFR considering the price range, but something usable.

2. It needs to have a fast and thing neck for pure shreddery!

3. It needs to have decent high fret access - not neccesarily as good as on my ESP, but I don't want a block from the 16th fret onwards...

4. Must be double cutaway and if it's a superstrat - I'd prefer it pointy.

5. Has to be H-H or H-S (Preferably H-H).

6. Gotta be 24 fret - And preferably Ebony board - but in this price range it's not realistic...

7. Other than that it's gotta look good or look metal - And not be a Razorback (I consider it off limits due to it being Dimebag's).

Tone doesn't have to be magnificent due to me having my Viper for all serious stuff and since all the venues I'm likely to play in sound like mush anyway.

This guitar will hopefully become my Widdling guitar for mindless shred :p

PS: I would rather new guitars simply because it means I can try them out easier and because it's not easy to pick a guitar and find it 2nd hand - Much easier to see what's 2nd hand and pick from that.

Don't think I'd be prepared to spend that much on a second hand LTD - It's the same price I got my Viper for...

Taking a look at it and I'm super impressed!

It's a shame it's only 22 frets - But I'm still taking a very earnest interest in it - LOVE the look of the fretboard - with that sole inlay.

Very nice - How does it play?

ibanez rg1570 and get used to the middle single coil (and round up another £50).

or washburn x40pro.

i'd prefer the ibanez, though some of that is doubtless personal opinion.

i guess some of the jackson pros are worth a look too... though in my opinion, the ibby is higher quality. but not everyone gets along with basswood.

Ibanez RG1570 is a very wise choice.

Just looking at these:

http://www.thomann.de/gb/jackson_dk2m_dinky_cs.htm - Maple Neck <3

http://www.thomann.de/gb/dean_guitars_vendetta_4floyd_rose.htm - GORGEOUS!!!

Have to play both of them sometime!

Definetly into the Dean at the moment - So gunna go around over the weekend looking for Deans/Jacksons and Ibanez - Specifically for those.

you wanna be careful with too cheap floyds... they can suck. the jackson one, far as I know, is a direct swap for an OFR (though I may be wrong). but the ibanez (and washburn) one should be grand as is.

Ibanez S series is a VERY $%&#ing good choice.  If you like 24 frets because of accessability, jsut learn to bend 22 to 24 =P.    If you like it because it cuts mud out of the neck pickup, well im sorry, you're screwed... the only thing i find that counters that is a trebly pickup.

Is there anyway you could pickup a used Ibanez JEM?  Those things SLAY. Honestly, playing them feels like cheating its so easy.
my maxon OD 808 really DOES make poop sound good

And if I want to bend 24 to 27? :p

Playing a 22 fret guitar isn't a horror for me, it's just I'd rather a 24.

That being said the Ibanez is deffinetly on the short list.

I really like the Ibanez S series, absolutely gorgeous guitars and... in my opinion... much better than the typical R shape.

Does that have the ZR tremolo? If so, how do you find it? When I manage to sell my SG I plan on buying an S-series Ibanez and want to ensure it's going to be up for plenty of trem abuse. I want it diving like a little Indonesian boy and still coming back for more!  8)

I always see/hear people ragging on the cheaper stock Ibanez trems and raising the Edge/Edge Pro to some unattainable level of awesomeness...

ZR trem > Any other trem
