are there any advantages of choosing 2 conductor braided... ovver 4 conductor? or is it just for the people who want PAF replicas?? Im taking a guess that old PAFs only had 2 wires? thanks

with 4 conductor wire, you can wire the pickup differently.

in series (how a humbucker is normally wired)
in parallel (still works as a humbucker, but changes the sound and lowers the output)
split (only one coil is active at a time.. you can also chose which one, depending on which wires you solder)

the wire on 2-conductor briaded is thicker and therefore a stronger connection - the 4-conductor wire is pretty thin.

saying that, I've never had a guitar where the wire has snapped with 4-conductor wire.

If i want to just use 2 wires can I just buy a 4 wire one and than not hook up the other two? or if i get a 4 wire one, do i have to hook up all of them. Dumb question Im expecting to hear that I can do that, although I better make sure before i get into trouble. :)

Yes, you can buy 4 conductor and only use 2 of them. The green/white should then be joined together and sealed.

Haha i always buy 4 conductor now, i think it's easier and quicker than 2 conductor because you have to peel back all the braided cr@p before you can solder in.

I've done one of each and I'll be sticking with 2 conductor from now on... so much easier for me 8)
