Van Der Sar had that covered all the way it was miles off.
And if you watch match of the day i think you'll find that the people on there agree with me saying Chelsea have had a cr@p season considering the money they have and cr@p January signings (which includes Kalou).
The game was shitee yes and nobody deserved to win.
Onto Philly Q, i think you will find that when we had Van Nistlerooy and Veron we wern't owned by a Billionaire and we didn't pay stupid prices for players then like Shevchenko which is the highest price ever paid for a footballer. We pay sensible prices for the majority of our players.
well firsly, i dont think people should base their opinions solely off match of the day.. or any one single source of information at all for that matter.
secondly, its not a cr@p season "considering the money they have"... otherwise theyd have said that about us every year unless we won every single trophy possible (going by your suggestions of how much money we have).
i would agree- we made bad signings, and could have done better had they been more wise. but 2nd in the league, and winners of both main domestic cups... i dont care what anyone says; thats not cr@p regardless of how much money a team has.
and once again, even if we're going off match of the day here, i dont recall Kalou ever once being mentioned as a bad signing. As i said- 10 goals... 10 goals off about a third of the number of league performances drogba has had... seems pretty damn good to me actually.
schevchenko- really hasnt settled too well... but still, 15 goals i think it is.
thats pretty good going for someone who has had a bad season.
and if you were really paying attention to Match of the Day, you would have noticed Alan Hansen's words on how Drogba is a great example of giving players time to settle and adapt to the premiership. I bet you were among the many (including myself!) who slated Drogba in previous seasons for not being worth the £25 million we paid... now look where he is? top scorer of the premiership.
if he's still here next season (schevchenko) i think there'll be a noticable improvement and the signing will be worth while.
oh and your point about you paying sensible prices for players... i personally dont think any figure in millions is a suitable price for a football player, its ridiculous as i said before... once you get into that sort of figures of money its all in the same ballpark really... money can only buy you so much in terms of a player...
look at Real Madrid for another example of how money doesnt always guarantee success... think of the cash thats been thrown at that club over time.
also, for an example of how to make a GOOD point- look at Elliots post above.
that is something that seriously worries me. the reality is, that we WILL fall from grace due to Abramovic leaving or just losing interest to some degree, sooner or later. but then again its impossible for a team to stay top of the pile, undisputed, FOREVER....
also one final point- Elliot.. whilst i would agree that Man UTD's academy/youth system has helped them considerably, i wouldnt necessarily say its been the cause of MOST of their success... they have had their share of flashy cash too... but definitely point taken. and thats another thing that worries me about us- i hope the board have the sense to invest time and money properly in our youth systems.
essay over.
