New sound wanted
« on: May 28, 2007, 12:51:28 AM »
Hi guys, Im new to the postings and all, but have listened to the sounds from the players and looked at a load of the products avaiable on BKP. This place is amazing.

Anywho, Im a guitarist running on a "Westfield LH Strat" not the best but it was a present from mum, many moons ago, so i shant complain. I was in my local music shop the other day asking for some advice on "microphonic" related issues. Rather than repotting the things myself and setting the house alight, I thought Id be best of giving the guitar a kick in the ass and upgrading pretty much everything on it. Its a bit drastic, but considering that Westfield only offered the Lefty strat in black or black, i was limited in my options. Everything from the paint to the electricals will be changed, and I would like to ask for some advice on what would be best for my playing style. The body is alder which im lead to believe is quite middle of the road for warmth vs brightness. I also use a Laney World Series 80 amp.

I do vary in what I play depending on how many people have aggrevated me in a day. I range from Jazz/Blues to Metal (not to heavy "Lacuna Coil/ Killswitch" are prob the best comparisons)

In my mind I like the Mirical Man as the bridge, Irish Tour Mid, Mothers Milk Neck. This is what Im thinking of as a setup. Would anyone agree or slap me around the face with a comedy sized fish? As i said im new here. Im doing my first major rebuild and you folks seem to know what your on about.
Currently rebuilding a Lefty Strat.

If it will take a humbucker I'd suggest that an Alnico V magnet might be better for variety in an Alder body. It sounds to me like a Holy Diver might be a good choice or maybe a Nailbomb.

Whatever you decide to get in terms of pickups, the singles ought to be in the same territory as the h/b, in other words, if you get a high output h/b go for one of the hotter singles-I cannot help with those because I am an old git stuck in a time warp but welcome to the forum anyway.Btw, the World Series amps-have to be one of the best sounding solid state ( yes I have stopped called them trannies at last!) that I have ever heard.I have one that I use as a back up and you can coax some great sounds out of them.

Look at the Rebel Yell with 2 Mother's Milks for a great sound from an Alder body.  It is one of Tim's recommendations, and I have gone with it.  The rebel yell will give you everything but extreme metal.
So many pickups, so little time

Well Ive started my rebuild. As you could see in the last picture it was stripped apart. Now im sanding it all down, ive just finished my initial concept of what I want it to look like but I think i will start a new thread on this to keep you folks informed, and possibly for some advice.

Who knew that paint would taste so bad....
lol

Thanks guys :headphones5:

What colour are you going to re finish it in? I thought a licence was required for painting like that?

I think you should slant the single coils backwards
