Wez venables guitar build - Done and dusted!!

one thing to remember when looking at the inlay is to try and imagine it with the frets going over them - obviously at the end of the neck more frets will cut through it but i still think it looks pretty good down there

I have just spoke to tim regarding the pickups.  This build seems to be going in a more metal direction so decided on a pair of miracle man pickups in distressed nickel covers.

I should point out that this is an awfull way to build a guitar.  when building for other people i always insist every element of the design is decided on first, but occasionally i really like to go with the flow and let it evolve like this one is.  I can see the finished guitar now and its nothing like i imagined when we started!!

I think the inlay should go on the headstock, but that's jsut me.

I think I remember something about you being a teacher Wez, is that right.  Hope you're enjoying your holiday you lucky git.  I drink with a few teachers and they're all looking especially smug these past weeks

my logo is going on the headstock - but i could imagine something like the fist looking good in the truss rod cover position, but that wont work on a fender style headstock!

yep, i'm a social sciences teacher - thats why i have the time to do this build!!  It does limit the number of guitars i can make a year  but i am trying hard to find a balance - hopefully be able to go part time at some point.

i'd go for the 12th fret, more than likely.

Spanning 11-13 imo.

Sat at the bottom of the neck would look ok, but not as good as 11-13.

my day job is cushy- seriously.  I only do 6th form, teach in the same two rooms that are next to the staffroom (close to my coffee jar  )  and can regularly sneak off to the workshops and pilfer the supplies of mahogany from old bookcases that arther keeps for me.. hopefully next year i can get one of the technicians to show me how to use the CNC machine, its not big enough for whole guitars but i might be able to cut logos and make templates on it.

And as soon as i decided i didnt care whever the kids liked me or not - it became almost stress free for me... all except the odd parents evening and report writing fuss.

best thing is that it gives me 13 weeks off a year plus i finish at 3.40 at least 3 days a week so plenty of time for this guitar stuff!!

Didn't mention anything about it being cushy (like I said, I drink with a few teachers, so I know what it's like).........

.........But apparently it is
