I know i might be being a bit critical but if you were singing Beat It on Channel 4 primetime viewing would you hire this guy to play your Beat It solo?!
I think it's really bad, though i like his strat

Perhaps a singer to accompany charlotte Church would also have been a good idea.

Ms Winehouse was so bad it took my mind of the guitar solo completely.

Then again I suppose what do you expect when the appearence fee is a bottle of Buckfast and 2 wraps of smack

Oh come on Joe I thought the bloke did the solo alright, I couldn't have done it better, perhaps you can though!  :P

Ms Winehouse on the other hand was dreadful, which is a shame as I've seen and hear her signing much better than that.

I like it when they do that on the CC show, she can really sing.

Relistened to the vid again (well the solo part), lets say I also thought he was fine, and he did a better job and Mr Eddie is likely to do these days (which is a sad thing to have to admit)

As for miss whinehouse (my preferred spelling), she was really dreadful on the Jules Holland thing on newyears eve, it was embarrising when she was onstage with Paul Weller.

Between trying to pull her skirt up and sounding like she is hiding her stash in her mouth, I was truely embarrised both for her and Paul Weller
Goodbye London !

I like Amy Winehouse's latest album, but I gotta admit she always sounds piss poor live due to the booze.

The guy doing the solo was no EVH, but not many are.  I thought there was nothing wrong with it.

The solo seems a bit quiet and awkward as he doesn't hit the notes in the original or does half the notes of the original in places, it's mainly the first half of the solo, the second half is good. Maybe it would sound better with some backing guitars for the start of the solo.
If you listen to the original, in comparison it sounds a bit bad, though it is live i'll give him that.

I have been attempting this solo (again) and i have definatley got better at it, if i get to crank my amp anytime in the remainder of these holidays i might record the solo.

The guy plays the solo about 100 times better than any live EVH version I've seen.  A whole sh!tload better than Slash too.

Amy Winehouse is horrendous in that clip - she's like one of those Japanese cover-band singers who've learned the lyrics phonetically without understanding them.  Except they sing in tune.

But kudos to Charlotte Church - she's really good.  Shame she got caught up in all the wild-child bullsh!t, but - unlike Amy, Britney, Lindsay et al - she's managed to pull herself back from the brink without getting totally $%&#ed up.

I have to jump in for Amy Winehouse at this point.  Whenever i have seen her on Tv recently she has been pissed and her reputation as a skank seems to be deserved...

...but i went to see her live on the last tour and it really was extremely professional and a lot better than i was expecting.  For a start she had two great backing singers,a great band and said she couldnt believe they let her sing after them .

she seemed totally togther at all times and seemed thrilled to be on stage singing for us - thats something i always like to see

anyway, when she is on form her voice is perfect!!!

Also have to say she gets judged worse for being a woman, we have loads of male rock stars that act like that and they dont get half as much stick!

+1 with most replies, solo is played very very well, those squeals and right hand tap harmonics are not easy. The guy could have used a lot of delay to cover things up but he used a very direct sound with his Tyler strat and it sounded spot on, would never have expected it that good.

I dunno, she seems to get exactly the same treatment from the press as that clown Pete Doherty.

But he is their favourite whipping boy I suppose.

tbh, i would say his  issues are more severe than hers.

hers seems to be mainly too much drink and an obvious eating disorder, still bad but not sure she quite qualifies as the self confessed heroin addict that he is - -

her hair is silly - his hat is worse
