The telecaster, whilst a fantastic instrument in it's own right, will never be as recognised as the stratocaster purely because of the period in the late 60s and 70's when they were played by every guitar hero worth his salt. The same goes for the LP. The only prevalent users of the SG that immediately spring to mind are Angus Young, Tony Iommi, Carlos Santana and Frank Zappa (Frank later changed to a hotrodded strat though.). A great many talented guitarists have used them over the years and there was a point where I truly considered the SG to be the coolest instrument ever. The SG is technically still a LP, or at least it's unappreciated teenage pregnancy, but Les actually hated them and so his name was removed. Coupled with the reliability issues inherent in the design meant that it remained relatively obscure compared to it's parent guitar, the LP.
