Author Topic: Does anybody use tonepros bridges here? (Read 4440 times)

I'm thinking about using one ( ABR-1 type ) in my LP. Most people like them but some claim it takes away some mids and lows...

any info?

They work great for me
Dont see how it might rob mid and low tones
If you left the grub-screws unlocked its no different to a regular bridge
And locking them just tightens everything up

Ive got them on quite a few guitars and I think there great. If anything ive experienced the opposite of what your describing as it physically locks your bridge so it acts as one big piece of metal so to me that can only increase the resonance and sustain.

I'm a bit sceptical about the claims that they increase sustain, but they certainly don't have any detrimental effect on the tone. After all, they're just regular Gotoh parts with a couple of little grub-screws added.

they do in theory increase sustain - anything thats stops helps to stop unwanted vibration will do that, but we dont really need much more sustain anyway!!

I think they just make the bridge transfer string energy slightly more effeciently due to it all being locked togther as one unit, but it should be held quite firmly under string tension anyway

The best bit is that your bridge doesnt fall off or move slightly when you change all the strings or abuse your guitar!

I like them but i think they are a bit overpriced for the small benefits they give, so not really necisarry - but why not have them if you can afford them

Well yeah exactly, that's why I'm sceptical. It's pretty much impossible to move parts under string tension, unless you whack them with a hammer or something.

I've used the TonePros screw-top locking studs for wraparound bridges several times. They're great for stopping that annoying issue of the bridge tilting forward due to loose-fitting studs, but I don't notice any difference at all in tone or sustain.

I thought the whole bridge was made to higher specs by tonepros and not just the saddles....

I must admit I haven't got the ABR-1 version, but the two (or four, if you count the wide and narrow posts) Nashville models TonePros make are definitely modified Gotohs.

And I'm pretty sure Gotoh do make an ABR-1 with saddles that won't fall out, just like the TonePros one.

I am using the tone pros studs on a through neck SG i am building at the moment. Its having a schaller wraparound bridge and hopefully the tonepros will stop the bridge tilting from string pull as they can with wraparounds.

They'll definitely stop the bridge tilting - that's the best thing about the TonePros studs. But if manufacturers engineered their parts a bit more precisely, the tilt problem wouldn't be there in the first place - I have a couple of Pigtail bridges, with Pigtail's own studs, and they don't tilt at all.
