The Relic.  It was on TV the other week but it's such a dark film, and the print was so bad, it was almost unwatchable.  Much better on Blu-ray!

Sherlock Holmes (the Guy Ritchie version) - great fun action film. Apparently the characters of Dr House and Wilson were based on those of Holmes and Watson. This film definitely shows the similarities between them

Also watched a few episodes of The Wire last night, quite good once you get started and don't expect an action-packed drama!

Watched the first of Weeds tonight and now I want to see more.

Yeah, I liked it!

I kind of expected to hate it, and I didnt like the text notations of clues and, well, texts and stuff, but it had enough redeeming features that I enjoyed it.

I also recently saw hot tub time machine, and, yeah, not terrible but nothing special. It ammused, expect it to do no more.

I also saw operation endgame - a cr@p film with the sole redeeming feature of that guy from hot tub time machine being really funny.

I liked it too (a rare agreement with Mark!  ).

I wasn't at all sure about the modernisation aspect, and Benedict Cumberbatch, good though he is, seemed kind of an "obvious" choice as Holmes.  But I really liked Martin Freeman's performance - he's amusing, but not at all in the buffoonish Nigel Bruce "I say Holmes, what the Dickens, eh?" mould.  His Watson seems like a man with real character who actually brings something to the partnership.  Good work!  :)

Now let's hope they can maintain the standard, and it doesn't turn out to be yet another series which bores me after two weeks...

In that case I might just survive to the end of the series.

I watched Adventureland this evening.  Not exactly my usual kind of thing, but I ended up enjoying it.

The planets align! (I agree with all your assesments too). I thought that freeman made a great straight man to cumberbatch, and it still gave him a grounded realism to contrast holmes and keep him useful, so its already set up that they need each other, and I thought it did so without being too contrived. Its a really good pairing.

I was worried when cumberbatch first came on because I thought he was too young and clean cut for holmes on initial impression, and suspected the portrayal was going to be goofily modernised alongside the changed time setting, but he carried the lofty, bored intellectual looking for stimulation well (and I think added a dimension of dubious morality, if any morality, that I dont recall being so prominent in the character, and again, doing it well). I was pleased with it.

Sadly I watched the 'remake' of Clash of the Titans last night. What a complete load of sh!t.
I think I hate being indecisive.

That's kind of what I expected... but I still can't help looking forward to seeing how bad it is.

Why is Sam Worthington getting all these big roles?  He's incredibly wooden, and there's something unnervingly "dead" about his eyes (I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out he's a serial killer!)

That's exactly what Jane and I were asking when we were watching the film. We also do not understand it. Looks like he has loads of other films lined up as well. Very strange.

Just watched Toy Story 3.  Really enjoyed it.  Went with my 18 month old, 3 year old, their mum and nan and everybody thought it was great.  There's not many films equally liked by a 1-and-a-half year old lad and a 62 year old lady!

Definitely worth watching, not one just for kids :D
