Schecters are absolutely amazing guitars, at absolutely amazing prices. They're one of the only companies that seem to take note of the exchange rate, and as such are infinitely better value than the LTDs, Ibanez's etc. Brilliant guitars - Brilliantly built, look fab, great hardware -Tick every box.

Now just waiting for the jeff loomis 7 string to make its way to England....

Either that or I buy one when I'm in the states in April...

I didn't like the couple i played in the shop.  They weren't really put together well, the action while OK was dwarfed by the fact that the frets were set up shite.  Neck profile was nice, for what it was, but the heel could have been done better.  They are fairly light though.  The woods used seem to be OK, nothing is really as good - at least from the ones i tried - as noodle says they are.  My biggest complaint would be the total set up.  Of course, this really doesn't mean anything as those models could have been sitting around the shop for a while, or just poorly put together ones, surely they aren't all like that!

EDIT:  Honestly if you want a well made guitar and are not gonna go custom i would suggest the ESP.  Just top notch quality there, nigh perfect set up, the works.

I think Schecters aren't bad, just aren't really fantastic. And as others have said, towards the top-end of the budget, you'd be better off going with something like a Jackson/Ibanez/ESP.

I voted for the slsmg because I own one(see avatar) and I'm really happy with it.  I got it used a year old in perfect shape for half the price.  My second choice would be an older made in Japan Ibanez S series.  The Korean made ones like the one on your list aren't as good.  Not saying they're bad, it's just it would be the kind of thing where you'd have to try a few of the same model to find one best for you.

Another thought: look at Agile guitars, they would almost certainly have some GREAT deals and they have fantastic craftsmanship.  If you are not looking to pay as much as the ESP or Jackson, however, i would go for the tried and true Ibanez, quality for price just can't be beat in that catagory.  :)

What on earth?

First you say schecters have bad setups and you point to agile?

Only go for Agile if you are looking for value ABOVE ALL ELSE - They're  a complete gamble - Half the time you'll have trem screws with destroyed threads, or strap buttons screwed at an angle etc.

Every story I hear about Agile seems to be worse than the previous - Sure, a good Agile is probably a good guitar, but since you can't try them out - I would never risk it.

On the other hand, I don't understand what people are saying about Schecter, the C1s and above play brilliantly, and are superbly finished in my experience.
My last FM.
ESP Horizon NTII.
ESP Viper Camo.
ENGL Screamer.

Seems Schecter is marmite, me thinks.
"Would you like some lemon oil?"
"Oh, no thanks, I don't eat fruit."

I think for the most part, if you strike a balance between the two extremes of praise and criticism, you get an idea of what schecters are like.
