Lives here seem somewhat depressing. Guess I'm not alone then.

I think we're all experiancing "Life."  I can find points in my life to post here to make it sound horrible:  I'm 24, living with parents, been balding since I was like 18, weigh over 250 lbs, single--never really had a girl, no money saved up, haven't finished college yet after 6 yrs, etc...

Also, I could write other things and make my life sound great:  I've got a 05 Mazdaspeed Miata convertiable (I LOVE that car), I'm learning and progressing nicely (I feel) at the guitar, My family are all fantastic, we get along very well, I'm now an uncle of a couple weeks--the little guy is adorable, I've been fortunate enough to be able to go to college, and should finish soon, I've' got a good job that I'm happy to do, and they pay me well, I'll hopefully be able to get a house of my own in a year or two, and I guess I'm pretty happy in general.

(Well, I gues it doesn't make it sound GREAT, but not bad anyways..)

So, all of you who appear down on your luck right now, look up and you'll see the bright side of things!  There's always something good going on.

Blimey, you lot make me feel old. OK so I am 49 with 2 sons (aged 25 & 19) and I am shacked up with Mrs 38th.I was once married but divorced 17 years ago.I have 2 cats ( Milly & Loretta) and am a Manager in a large Insurance co (though maybe for not much longer as redundancy looms due to a takeover) but I am by definition a musician/songwriter. Mrs 38th owns a health food shop and I help her with that business a fair amount. I currently play in two bands- a covers band (lead vocals/guitar) and a blues band(lead vocals/bass) .I have loads of mates in the business(some well known, others not so well known) and I have, in my time, been a semi professional musician and have have a lot of experience doing all kinds of stuff-including theatre work as a muso. I have recently started writing stuff again and will record it all in due course and stick it on the 'net. Also I have had a great idea for a book and I am currently looking at putting that together but a lot of research to do. cr@p at DIY though-much to Mrs 38ths frustration. As I have said elsewhere, I currently have limited internet access until I can fix up my PC at home( a bit busy right now) after having apparently(according to BT) a lightning strike that has taken out my phone line-hence the lack of me of late.

I may as well share too, eh?

I'm 33, married to Mrs TF, and we live in Manchester with our 5 cats (Treacle, Mushroom, Honey, Willow and Anya).  We have no kids, and no plans to, as neither of us have the desire to have them.  Mrs TF is a primary school teacher and sees enough kids as it is!

I work as a Computer Systems Manager for a large international company, which is as boring as it sounds.  That's why I post on here all the time

Out of work I'm a motorbike fan and I watch MotoGP, World Superbikes and British Superbikes.  Me and Mrs TF both have bikes (me a Ducati 749S, Mrs TF an Aprilia RS250) which are our weekend playthings.  We go to several of the UK circuits for bike race meetings, and this year Mrs TF wants to go and watch the truck racing at Donington  :)

Musically, I've been playing guitar since I was about 8 years old so that's 25 years.  I'm probably more interested in the way sounds are made as much as the music itself, which is why I'm such a gear head.  Similarly with the bikes, where I'm really into the technical info.  This is why I have a titanium wedding ring, as it's a commonly used metal in the racing world used to save weight.  It's what bikers would call "trick"  ;)

I play in an AC/DC cover band called YC/DC? and we're based in South Manchester.  Our singer plays in several bands, so we don't gig as much as we'd like to because we're limited by his availability.  However, I really enjoy the small number of gigs we do as each one is great fun - it's never a chore.

I'd love to own my own guitar/amp shop one day as I have a database for a brain and it's full of info from reading guitar magazines over the years.  I'm sure I could run a great shop and help a few people find the right gear for them.

As for the immediate future, I think I need to find/form a second band playing classic rock covers so I can gig more often  :)

Mrs TF an Aprilia RS250

I like Mrs TF.  I used to have the 125 which I blew up a few times.  Always wanted a 250.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

:D Christ is it my turn now !

Well Ok here go`s i`m 43. Like 38th i play in a cover band [ duo] all tho i`m not gigging at the moment. I work for a soft drinks manufacturer that make several famous brands under licence. I run machines etc. I gig at least once a week if not more, unfortunately i have to play a huge amount of middle age rubbish ! mainly 60`s based pop tunes. Its great making sure there awake by waking in a quick arpeggio sweep out of the blue !

Then last year it all went pear shaped. I went into hospital and due to a lot of indecisiveness they failed to operate in time and had to perform emergency operation at literally the last minute to remove what turned out to be cancer from my bowel. After another op i was in a coma for 5 weeks and then woke up to find i was paralysed from the neck down ! I had to learn to walk all over again and replay the guitar. I`m suffering some serious after effects at the moment which means i`m back home living with my parents here in Beds. Otherwise i live in N.E.London/Essex. I`m not married and have no children and i`m currently without a girlfriend at the moment.

I`ve decided to put together a Trio cover band when i recover properly that will play American style pop rock from around the 80`s. Think Huewy Lewis and the News, The Outfield, Rick Springfield etc. Lots of great catchy fun songs. I`m currently planing to record little instrumentals to post up on the net.

 :D  8)
God I could do with a Gin & Tonic !

Have you seen what happened to all the pic agencys? Most got bought out by Getty Images and they pay their smudgers peanuts now. The corporate machine, it's just bloody horrible really. I've just had a dispute over money that was owed to me from a regular event that I used to cover. I could feel the guys voice suggesting that I should be grateful that I'm chosen to do it and not invoice him for the agreed amount. So I'm not even going to bother any more, unless I get it up front or at least 50% of it. I even got an email from some bird who wanted pics on a DVD from a previous event. Obviously the new snapper. Bleeding cheek! I've done a few weddings and been paid for them but those brides mums are hormonal maniacs on their little girls big day and would rather just do an extra shift at work than put up with all that poxy clucking to be honest!

Yeah too right, i was going to go with some pic agency but it was rediculous, i've just had a year off photography 'cause i've been so pissed off with all the cr@p that comes with it it's taken me this long to calm down abotut it, lol.

These days band managers are TOLD to not pay us photographers, it's a right piss take! My camera alone (1D MK II) is worth more than the damned whole bands rig half the time. grr. And if you put in the 70-200 L IS 2.8 it definitely is more expencive!

Hah, it actually sounds like fun :D if i were to do wedding photography i'd aim for the bigger fees pretty quick, £1,000 plus... i don't see the point in doing it any cheaper.

Though lately i think i've lost my eye for photography for that kind of stuff, still able to get the band shots but i think i've been doing that for so long that it's all ic an do! sigh.

er.... 27 and living with my girlfriend and two cats, syd and nancy.  I work in a school  - sometimes as a Teaching assistant and sometimes as a VI form teacher for sociology and psychology.

then in most of my spare time and school holidays i work on guitars.  started making them about 5-6 years ago but have been modding them since i got my first squire strat in 1994 and promptly took it apart with no clue how to put it together.  I started building quite randomly because i found a book called 'how to make your own electric guitar' by Melvyn Hisc--k.  That just happened to grab my eye in a music shop in Bolton about 10 years ago and i spent 4 years researching and  doing more extensive mods before doing my first from scratch build.

here are the first 25 (not all good)

http://s36.photobucket.com/albums/e31/WezV/?action=view&current=bec09386.pbw

26 was 'The Veteran'  which i documented here
27 is a fanned fret LP
28 will be done soon and is a white and black strat from warmoth parts
29 will be a white explorer with Kahler trem
30 has some really fancy details to it - its my vendetta shape
31 is a black sg with nickel P-90's and hardware

the rest are still in the planning stages

also like doing other guitar related projects and have built a champ amp kit, a few pedals, a lapsteel, restoring a banjolelee and working the quirks out of an ashbury bass

things are going pretty well really.. the day job is annoying me more and more and the plan is to phase that out in favour of the guitar stuff over the next few years

Also trying to renovate my house which is quite small but currently averaging a year per room

all this means i dont get to play guitar very often

Ouch Jt- my aunt died of bowel cancer a few years back, not nice. Glad you made it out okay!

And Beatle- does that mean we should technically refer to 'Mrs 38th' as "Miss 38th" if you're not married?

And Dave- DEFINITELY open a guitar shop! Go on, do it. Tomorrow! :)
