I've been a member for a couple of years now and can always rely on getting solid answers and feedback to my questions here.

I feel the down to earth atmosphere in the forum is greatly due to the vibe and support given from Tim and the Bare Knuckle staff.  I feel this vibe is passed down to each of us making us more polite and easy going.

So your 20 O9. Well I'm 42 and having been online for 12 years does make a difference if you go back that far which would make me 30 and you 8. I've seen lots of places online that are just platforms for ranting and raving in that 12 years and they are full of people who love it. As you've noticed this place isn't like that. Trolls is what they are and that is a term I haven't heard or have had to use for the nearly 3 years I've been here. I sense that you were drawn into all that when I first read some of your posts here. As you can see this place is lovely and we all get on and learn from each other. I've learned loads of things on here by asking questions or just reading. It's great and it is like a pub in a way. Leave the tearing strips to the mugs in the shitety forums. This place is guitar heaven and I just don't bother like most of us here, with other forums. Anyway I'll drink to the new you, cheers!  :)  :drink:

This place is very cool, and theres much more respect for each other, and in turn, each others opinions on here. I do agree that it has alot to do with the mainly post adolesent members (although I am 16    :P ).

At least a new online me    In any case, you were right to think that as i came off of a 2 year association with the Encyclopedia Metallum, AKA Metal-Archives, forums and everything there was pretty vicious at times.  I became highly defensive, it helped me grow in some ways, and in others, such that i grew out of that place   (i can be elitist without resorting to online squabbles about such matters  , squabbles in real life for that matter )  Here however, i have yet again evolved at least with my online identity and personality and have come to be a bit more civil - not saying i won't bust out with a rant every once and again, however, there will be very few in the future if there are any at all.  I hope to be a member of this place for a long time to come, and i hope to one day share my music with you all as i have respect for your oppinions and appreciation.   :D

Ditto.
Like I said; quite often people are far too brave on the internet and wind up acting total c--ks.

I think the problem with internet forum's is that they are like documents that last forever, once you say certain things you can't go back, so I try and think about what I'm saying more than I would in real life before posting. You should try having your blogs critisized on your myspace page, by an enemy who's sole purpose is to turn people against you, now that's not easy! this has now stopped fortunatley, it happend to me for over a year until they gave up, some very strange people out there on the internet!

Yes, very mellow here.

I think that it's often to do with competition - forums are often one thing vs another.  I'm a martial artist, and I used to visit kung fu forums a lot, and they were FULL of ignorant, bigoted cowards posting about their prowess, or their masters' skill...  I guess that we're all on the same side here, except for the occasional disagreement about Painkillers vs Miracle Men (when everyone knows Nailbombs kick ALL of your puny arses...)

Also, forums owe a lot to a favourite David Bowie lyric - "Talk in extremes, it will save you time..."

some forums are just more good natured than others and it does tend to come down to good, but not too strict moderation.... which is what i think we have here

agreed. :)

I've got into the odd slanging match online, and to be honest, it's just not worth it. you can't win, and for all you know the person arguing with you is just trying to be a troll and is secretly laughing at how riled up you're getting...

Sometimes I see on some forums, what i now call "The Heather Mills effect" which is : "the more you say - the less you are right"

Gladly we don't get much of that here people generally keep their egos in check.

I agree with what was said earlier about competitiveness and how it leads to slanging matches but don't feel that we see much of it here.

Thankfully the makers : myself, Bob Johnson, Wez, Blackmachine (Doug doesn't do forums) and anyone else are keener to share ideas and be constructive to each other than to get into a competitive race.
Also true with players on the Forum - we dont see too much I'm faster than you or more melodic etc.
Even as far as taste in music goes we all seem to accept that we don't all like the same things and that we are all entitled to enjoy what we enjoy

Amazing isn't it? Considdering all, well most anyway, guitarists are egomaniacs. Apart from me offcourse.
