Please Give - indie film with little plot but lots of subtle humour. The top quality cast all give first class performances and pull off the lack of traditional overly-dramatic scenes that litter most movies. A film about under-the-surface emotions and the awkwardness of daily life, highly recommended.

Monsters. Pretty good I thought. Not much of an exciting plot but still kept me entertained for an hour and a half! Apparently it was done to a pretty small budget - I thought the vfx etc were awesome and done tastefully.

Drive Angry 3D - for a cheesy stupid action film it was surprisingly dull. I usually find this sort of film fun but it was just boring. Good action scenes and 3D stuff though, I suppose.

Gran Torino - good but I don't think it was as good as everyone else seems to? The main "kid" actor was quite terrible.

Despicable Me - OK animated feature but I didn't think it was as good as the reviews. Very derivative, lots of slapstick humour, predictable story. Worth a watch but don't expect too much.

Unthinkable - FBI try to find bombs (planted by a terrorist in 3 US cities) using a black ops 'specialist' (Samuel L. Jackson)... from here you could write the film yourself. The first hour of the film is total garbage, cliché nonsense. After that, it becomes more like a stage-play and things improve, the acting goes up a notch, the script is workable and there are a couple of excellent scenes (Michael Sheen performance is a highlight). More misses that hits, I'd avoid this one.

The Runaways - Predictable biopic, some of the acting is OK but you've see all this before, sex, drugs, in-fighting, egos, svengali manager, poor to rich to poor, etc. in every film about music but done better than here... avoid.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans - Absolutely amazing film, the script isn't up to much but a stunning central performance (Nicolas Cage) and excellent support (Eva Mendes, Val Kilmer) topped off with brilliant direction (Werner Herzog) make this a must see film.

Yeah, I loved it.  I'd seen reviews saying the film's an utter train wreck, but they were completely wrong.

The Social Network - much better than I was expecting.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Tron Legacy - really enjoyed this actually, I can imagine it would've been good in 3D. Loved the CGI and general stylings of everything in the grid. And Olivia Wilde in the black catsuit thing!

Unknown - standard Liam Neeson action/thriller film, but didn't quite go in the direction I thought it would toward the end which felt a bit rushed and awkward. Each time I go to the cinema I wonder why I bother though as it's just full of loud and rude people rustling their sweet wrappers and talking to each other :x

Buried - I liked this one - and in general I love films with very restricted settings and locations. Then the scrrenplay and the acting has to shine through. Ryan Reynolds might not be to anybodys taste, but I think he does a good job here.

Unthinkable - Like Plexi Ken said not recommendable. The "good old ethic question" of applying torture. Is it OK if it's for the greater good and how far can you go, but in a really bad wrapping. Didn't seem trustworthy to me and some quite bad acting in there. I found the ending somewhat confusing as it kind of misses a conclusion. If you like the ethic dilemma i recommend watching "Rendition" instead.

Exam - I read Philly's post and thought: This is a movie for me and spot on. Really enjoyed it. Reminds me a lot of a Spanish movie called "el método" which also is really great.

Have you seen (another Spanish film) Fermat's Room?  I think you might like it!

I watched Unthinkable last night as well, it was a bit rubbish, especially the ending!

Not film but I've started watching The Sopranos thanks for Sky Atlantic, quite good so far :) Apparently the ending is shitee but I'm enjoying it at the minute. Also almost finished Sons Of Anarchy season 3, very good!

I gave up on The Sopranos. I found it a little slow. Perhaps I should give it another go when I have a bit more patience.

The Illusionist (L'illusionniste) - Based on a script by Jacques Tati this is an animated feature of the very highest quality. Set in 1959 and with almost no dialogue, the visuals and attention to detail are just wonderful. Full of subtle humour and gentle observations - like watching cinema from another era... a must see film.

I want to see that -  I liked, rather than loved, Les Triplettes de Belleville but I'm a big fan of Jacques Tati!
