just watched rise of the planet of the apes - i will start by saying i am a fan of the originals from sunday afternoons on channel 4. the first film is awesome, second poor, 3rd is odd but a childhood memory i cherish. 4th was never on tv as a kid at a time i could watch because its the most violent and 5th i hardly remember even though i have seen it a few times since.
1 and 4 were always the best. Tim burton remade 1 and all i remember is the stupid ending. But this new version of 4 is pretty damn good!
it is the perfect prequel to the original charlton heston film and a good re imagining of the 4th film. squeezing the damn dirty ape line in was a bit obvious (damn you malfoy!). one of the things i remember most about the 4th original film was the tension in the drum music - which made a nice appearance, all be it toned down and only for a minute or so, in the new film
only problem, Conquest of the planet of the apes had a clear message about segregation, abuse and slavery. Rise never tries to match the original in message, just the story arc - i guess we dont like films to have a message anymore
also watched Super (no, not super 8). A bit like kickass, but not. i quite liked it, but some of it really didnt work. Ellen Page is more annoying than ever and its pleasing to see her perish.
