The were so many great British films made between the '40s and the '70s! 

It's such a shame they don't show older films on TV much nowadays, when I was a kid I saw tons of classic films, even though we only had 3 (later 4) channels!

I really do need to watch more classics. The trouble is availability - I don't own many (or any), they are rarely on TV and it just seems like too much of an effort to go and rent one out (or join lovefilm).

Nearly Christmas though and that means It's a Wonderful Life gets its yearly airing. Love that film.

I've just re-watched 'Shadowlands'  ( Anthony Hopkins as an older, and subsequently bereaved C.S. Lewis ) on DVD - as part of me giving  onward recommendation.    A very understated yet engaging and deeply moving film,  if you have had to deal with the loss of a much loved one . Ultimately it succeeds in dealing with the subject in a way that is unflinching, yet very uplifting ; not least because of Anthony Hopkins, delivering the profound dialogues / monologues with great sensitivity and gravitas. Brilliant .

Oh yes, that is a classic. My sister bought it for me when I was much younger. Strangely it was a bright green VHS.

Tonight I've watched You've Been Trumped

Rarely has a documentary made me so angry. It astounds me that governments and people in power can act like that without a care for others rights or feelings. I guess thats why I'm neither a politician or successful businessman.

It's on iPlayer at the moment if anyone really wants to see what a massive c0ck Trump really is. I imagine I'll still be angry about it for a while.

Not sure if anyone on here is from Aberdeenshire. Would be good to hear some views on this if we have sincere here.

Sinister - not bad but it was really predictable. All of the jumpy bits were in the trailer which kind of ruined it for me I think.

It definitely would've been better had I not seen the trailer so if you didn't see it i can see why you'd recommend it! It was still a fun film but I was hoping to be more scared is all :P I liked the Boards of Canada in the soundtrack :) This does raise a point with something that's been annoying me for a while though - trailers seem to be getting longer and showing too much these days.

100% agree, I'm not from that area but was so angry after watching. The ability for a very rich individual to 'sway' the behaviour of politicians, journalists, police, ect. was amazing. The police actions were like something from the old Eastern Bloc!

I finally got around to watching Prometheus after pre-ordering it and it sitting on the shelf for about 5 weeks :lol:

It looked very nice but that's about it tbh. Thought it was a pile of pretentious cr@p with gaping holes, and what was there made next to no sense :lol:

I'm not normally 1 to try to read too much into films, especially of the Action, Thriller or Sci-Fi genres, and am usually there just to be entertained but was quite looking forward to this and felt let down.

The best I could figure, it was all because they were mad at us for killing jesus. I thought that was mental, so I looked it up and was disappointed to find I was right.

I didn't pick up on this tbh. Although I'll openly admit to not picking up on 'hidden meanings' in films and song lyrics etc.

I went to watch Skyfall today and thought that was ok.

I felt the same about that as I did about The Dark Knight Rises mentioned in this thread a few pages back.

After a week of everyone putting stuff up about it being the best Bond film ever etc I was really expecting the bar to have been raised, and I was a bit disappointed with it. I guess 'overhyped' is a word I'd use.

I'm a huge Bond fan, always have been, and really was expecting something special going by things other people had said. Maybe I missed something but it just came across as 'just a normal Bond film' (aside from a few bits) to me.

Still worth watching though  :D
