The Cabin In The Wood. Not sure if I enjoyed this or thought it was utter shitee!

Thats your sense of humour and appreciation of absurdity trying to override any effort to take a film seriously.

Just go with it. Serious films are overrated.

Speaking of which, dark knight rises. I thought it was good, but I'd rather watch Iron Sky again.

Bane/hardy being way, way too loud in the audio track was off-putting as $%&# (though the writing for him and hardys voice-over performance both pretty badass), Anne Hathaway is gorgeous. They're the main things about it, really.

(quote system isn't working again  )

"Just go with it. Serious films are overrated. "

never seen the film in question, but +1. Not to say I'd never want to watch a serious film (plus different people find different things serious, so that's also worth bearing in mind), but a lot of the time I'm watching films or tv for escapism. Plus it also annoys me when people act like so-called serious films are "realistic", because if you're really honest, normally they aren't exactly realistic either. More so, maybe, but not entirely realistic either.

Nazi zombies are so 1995

Its all about moon nazis now.

...Iron Sky is funny as hell. It also knows how $%&#ing stupid it is. I loved it.

My mate did some of the visual FX on that.  :D

He had great fun shooting rail guns at nazi space zeppelins, setting off nuke's on the moon and generally blowing things up.  ;)

Here's his latest showreel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OakaHYEIODU

Agreed about Bane being way too loud in DKR. It's really off putting!

That mask didnt deliver plainkillers, it was a miniaturised JCM800.

Thats his superpower. 800-face.

Your mates work is badass, muttley. Turns out I've seen a fair bit of it (I also watch fringe).

I agree, dave. But it would be far too ironic to have a serious discussion about the merits of non-serious films, so I'm just gonna leave it there.

Abraham Lincoln Vs. Zombies

From the Asylum, the people who brought us the likes of Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus.... this is their rip-off of the (minor) hit Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.  It might've been OK, just about, if it had been played for laughs, but it's played totally straight..... and totally boring.

Expendables 2.

I liked 1. It was amusing.

2 was just a deluge of shitety acting and painfully cheesy lines without the humour.

Iron Sky

Quite liked it, but I was expecting it to be a bit more over-the-top and (intentionally) stupid.  Moon Nazis, like Nazi Zombies, is a great concept.... but the film didn't really make me laugh much.

Nazis live on the moon in a giant swastika and invade earth to get an iphone to control their doomsday machine.

I've underestimated your daftness threshold!

How much dafter do you want it?

  The ideas are daft, of course, but the actual style of the film is pretty restrained I think.  Even Udo Kier doesn't really ham it up that much (shockingly!).

I found the bits with the Sarah Palin lookalike US President and the UN(?) meetings more amusing than the Nazi stuff.

Fair enough!

I agree, actually (on the politicians and UN being the funniest parts).

Kinda reminds me of Bubba Ho-Tep. An idea so awesome on paper that it should have been golden. It just never lived up to the premise. See also, Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter.

Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter was hugely disappointing, great title but rubbish film!

Bubba Ho-Tep.... I do like the film, but you're right that it should have been even better.

Have you seen Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale?  Another really good idea (about the "real", scary Santa Claus) which never fully realises its potential, although it is a pretty good film nevertheless.

I haven't seen the films you mentioned, but I hate when that happens. As you said, some ideas are so awesome that they should more or less write themselves. And it's infuriating when they (somehow) manage to muck it up.

e.g. Old School and Accepted.
