I finished watching Grizzly Man last night. An interesting, but not very thought provoking documentary. Anger provoking yes, thought provoking no. From watching the 'self video' clips included it seemed clear (to me at least) that Timothy Treadwell had some sort of mental illness. Quite how someone can claim to be a protector, and lover, of animals and then act in the way he did is a little more than odd.

My feelings before I watched the documentary were mixed and a little sympathetic to how he died. After watching the documentary I feel no sympathy at all. He absolutely got what he was asking for and was lucky* to have survived for as long as he did. The biggest tragedy was of the bears who were killed when his remains, and his girlfriends, were being recovered.

It also appears that as well as the bears he also 'humanised' the foxes that were in the area. Another idiotic thing to do as my assumption would be that the bears and foxes would be less cautious approaching humans and thereby increasing the likelihood of human/wild animal contact that would ultimately lead to an attack and potential death (for either human or animal). But he did love animals though so I'm sure he justified his actions to himself before he carried them out.

* - in the documentary it is commented that Timothy Treadwell was smarter than people gave him credit for because he survived so long living alongside the bears. My take is that he was incredibly lucky to have lived alongside the bears for that long. If he was smart he wouldn't have done it at all or at least would have had some form of protection with him.

I think it's a shame he didn't receive sufficient mental help.
It wasn't a mistake, it was chromaticism, I swear.

Yes - agreed with that. Maybe I was a bit too harsh with me not feeling sympathy for the way he died. Clearly if he had been treated sufficiently this may never have happened. His parents didn't seem to be the most supportive of people (actually - the Mum probably was, the Dad came across as potentially a bit of a controller)

On reflection, it was a mistake to watch that and "Into the Wild" on the same night, but it just seemed to make so much thematic sense at the time.

Jeez - that's a tough one. I watched Into the Wild a month or so ago. I think I'd feel completely drained if I had watched both on the same night!

Today I watched Clash of Empires - the Battle for Asia, a historical/action movie set in Roman times.  I don't even remember putting it on my Lovefilm list.

It was absolutely awful, but it may be the first Malaysian film I've ever seen, so that's something I guess....  :?
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Seven Psychopaths - really good I thought, fun way of telling a story and it was pretty funny :)

Just finished watching Breaking Bad. Four and a half seasons in a little over 2 weeks. That's how highly I rated it - literally every spare minute Jane and I had was spent watching that. Highly addictive.

I'd heard lots of positive stuff about it but never got around to giving it a go. There is now a bit of a hole in my TV viewing until the final 8 episodes of season 5 are released! I think I'll even go as far as saying that, for me at least, it rates higher than The Wire.

Anyone considering this series should give it a go!

Yeah, Breaking Bad was superb.
Have you tried Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead yet? neither is in the same league BB or The Wire, but I enjoyed both more than I thought I would.

I wish I had watched them in moderation instead of watching them all in one ago. Finished them all last week, it is going to be a long wait until July!

Yeah - I'm up to date with Game of Thrones - I do like it but prefer more gritty/realistic dramas. Might give The Walking Dead a go, I've heard good stuff about it.

Yep - me too. It was so addictive that I couldn't help myself. There was one night where we watch 6 episodes in a row and didn't get into bed until well past 01:00 (that is very late for me!)

I have been nagging my friend to watch them so I can talk about it to him. I took season 1 around to his the other night and we watched the first 4 episodes. It was good seeing the first few episodes again, Walter seems like a totally different character, morally speaking. Its safe to say my friend and his housemate are hooked!

It's always good to be able to talk about programmes, series, documentaries, films etc to others that have seen them. I found the writing in Breaking Bad to be extremely impressive. Whilst I don't recall all of the traits of Walter in the early episodes I do distinctly remember him panicking when he thought the police were coming for him. Compared to what he gets up to in the later series it is quite a remarkable transformation*

it is a great bit of character development - can't wait to see where they take him.   also interesting that Jesse Pinkman wasn't supposed to make it past the first series originally.

So many great characters though, Fring and Mike stand out.  But I must admit we lost it for a bit with the Tuco stuff between series 1 and 2

Latest Walking dead was good  but I need to see a tank soon or i am giving in

Game Of thrones series 3 hasn't started brilliantly.  Partly because I watched it on Tv with adverts :(    It felt very fractured with 3-5 mins per character.  but it was the first episode and i guess they want to remind us where most people are (still missed a few).  personally i think it would be better with 1 or 2 characters/stories/cities per episode.

I didn't know that about Pinkman. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened without him in it. Agreed on Fring and Mike being great characters - I think Hank is up there too. Another well written role. Aside from Tuco the other character that I thought was a bit weak was Beneke.
