Skyfall

Yeah, I know I'm months behind all you downloading types....

The best Bond movie ever?  All the hype made me sceptical, but it's certainly the best for a very, very long time.  I like the way they got all the exotic locations, gadgets, wisecracks etc out of the way in the first half of the film, then took it somewhere completely different.  I usually like Bond films "because they're Bond films", but I really enjoyed this one in its own right.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Yeah Philly, I completely agree with you about Skyfall.

I'm a huge Bond fan and like most of them throughout their history, but after the total cr@p that was Quantum Of Solace, Skyfall didn't have much to live upto!

I saw Star Trek: Into Darkness yesterday and really enjoyed it. I'm not a huge Trek fan by any means; I've never seen any of the original films and apart from seeing a few episodes of DS9, I've never seen the TV series either. I've really enjoyed both the reboot Trek films, and Bennedict Cumberbatch makes a good villain in this newest 1.

That's an interesting point. I heard an interview with J J Abrams recently and he said that he specifically made the film with the general film goer in mind rather than trying to keep the Trekkies happy. I'm not a trekkie at all - liked the one a few years ago (and also First Contact). Other than those I don't think I've really seen much else. Will be going to see this at some point (dressed as a Vulcan no doubt  :)  )
I think I hate being indecisive.

Whever people talk about Star Trek I feel very old - I only really watched the original '60s series, although I have seen odd episodes of Next Generation, Voyager and Deep Space 9.

I even think of the films as "new".... and then I remember falling asleep during Star Trek: the Motion Picture in my first week at University.... in 1981.

I did enjoy the first reboot film, although the plot was pretty idiotic and I found Chris Pine intensely irritating for the first hour or so.  I'll have to wait for the new one to come out on Blu-ray.

that is what makes him a good Kirk, you can't look at him without wanting to give him a slap

I have always watched Star Trek, I was pretty happy with the first of the new films and Into Darkness is a good watch but it is an action film first and foremost.

The original series of films seemed to follow a pattern  - Odds are a bit ropey, Evens are generally better films.

Big Star Trek fan of the original series, TNG and DS9 and I really couldn't deal with the first film. Why did they have to re-invent the original cast rather than going for something else based in the same universe? I'll give them that the guy they got to play Bones was so spookily like him it was untrue. Spock was also good. But Kirk... No, he's just not him. Kirk basically could win on awesomeness alone. This guy just had none of that. The secondary characters also, just no charisma.

Then there was the plot... Dear god is this really the sort of bollocks people like these days. It made no sense, and the more you thought about it, the more it irritated. Now don't get me wrong there have been some god awful Star Trek films in the past. But that really did just take your brain out, blend it a while with explosions and lens flares, then just put it back in again.
When you´re racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just pies.

Side Effects - actually thought this was really good. Lots of twists and whilst it wasn't the mind$%&# movie I thought it was going to be it was still enjoyable :)

yeah, although i have read the books so it was not quite as much of a shock

apparently the original plan was to have it as a cliffhanger before a 5 year break in the story whilst all the kids grow up a bit.... but he just kept on writing more stuff anyway and what was originally going to be two 3 book trilogies is now an 7/8 massive epic.   i do think he looses his way with some things and i like the Tv show is taking a more focused approach.  some favourites just disappear into the back ground then you hear through another characters story that they have died or some other terrible fate has befallen them.   Its part of the style of his books that important story elements are seen through various different viewpoints and gossip so some misinformation is quite important to that... but i can't imagine yet how he is going to pull everybody together for a cohesive end.   sadly it looks like that will be long after the Tv show has finished

1 more episode of the series left and still a lot to happen.   Joffrey still needs to have his wedding........

yep. and me neither  I kinda got the feeling from the start of the episode that something bad was going to happen at the wedding (i haven't read the books), but i didn't really think as much as that would happen, either.

hopefully that's not a spoiler, lol.

I still cant get fully into GOT, always found it a bit overrated.  Just can't wait for Breaking Bad!

I do like GOT although, in my opinion, Breaking Bad is far far superior. When is it due back on our screens? I'm really looking forward to the last half of the series but also sad that it will come to an end soon.

I'm really rather fond of it, no doubt that Breaking bad is a flat out better show though, it's up there with The Wire.
I enjoyed last episode of Got   MILD SPOILER It should leave some more space for some of the other plot lines to develop.

I never thought about the series ending before the books, I guess that will give George a significant boost in the readership department once the show is over

I'm finding Parks and Recreation to be the perfect compliment to these more intense shows.
It wasn't a mistake, it was chromaticism, I swear.
