You too busy organizing all your Warmoth necks and bodies or something? ;-p

To be fair we watch alot of series together (Hannibal at the mo) and play Xbox. Well, I do the actual playing and she tells me off for not killing monsters properly and how I should use a flamethrower instead

If only!

Nah, health issues.  I do lots of exercise nowadays, and I'm much more careful about what I eat, no ready meals or anything like that.  It has its benefits, but it's all very time-consuming.

Good for you :) I've lost about four stone in three years so I know how hard keeping fit-ish can be. Still a fat bar-steward mind but I knew I had to do something when I saw a photo of myself in a sleeveless cardigan and actually thought it was Onslow ;)

I lost about 3.5 stone in less than six months, which was way too fast of course, I lost muscle as well as fat.  But I've built a little back and I'm in pretty reasonable condition (for an old geezer) now.  I'm very much a creature of habit so I'm OK as long as I stick to my routines and rituals, I just have to make sure I don't let it slide.

But that's one of the reasons for the "mountain of unused guitar parts under Philly Q's bed" phenomenon.  It was already there, but it's much worse now!

Ever seen the exploit/docu on hoarders? Think it's on channel4? "This man hasn't been able to get to his bed for fifteen years because of all the guitar necks he has collected over the years and refuses to build. He sleeps in a guitar case."

I remember when I first moved in with my partner and the bed broke (cheap slatted base) and I had to make guitar magazine towers to prop up the snapped slats 'cause we were so hard up. A pile of guitar bodies could've done the trick too

Yeah, I've seen lots of those programmes.

In a way, they're worrying, because I certainly recognise elements of myself; but in another way, they're reassuring, because I'm nowhere near as bad as they are (really, I'm not....!)

I most definitely have a "collector" mentality - if I like a band I get all their albums, I never miss an issue of my guitar magazines, I have lots of books, Blu-rays and DVDs.... and yes I do keep stuff, I don't chuck it out if it still works.  BUT.... I don't actually "hoard" useless things (like piles of newspapers etc) for their own sake.

The problem is, you keep buying stuff and it accumulates without you really noticing.  Then it's difficult - and time-consuming - to grab the bull by the horns and get things back in order.  I know some people could just dive in and chuck everything in a skip over a weekend, without even thinking about it..... but that's not me, I'm afraid.  I want to put stuff on eBay, get something back on it if I can.... but that's very time-consuming in itself.  And so it goes on....

Photos like this and the fact that a Caterham is now surprisingly snug on me (used to be no problem), make me think I really should do some more exercise and eat less pie. Then I remember that I don't enjoy exercise but really enjoy pie...

Look how happy I am! :)

Yea, that's exactly how the people on these shows justify themselves too  ;-p

I used to collect and display but I boxed up all my DVDs, CD's, magazines, books years ago and stuck em out of sight what with Netflix, Spotify, Itunes etc etc... seems a bif daft and futile to fight it at this point. I do miss things like going to Blockbusters, though. But it's just nostalgia. I used to get well pissed off if the movie I wanted was already on loan 'cause some selfish bar-steward didn't bring it back and you can guarantee the tape wasn't rewound, that was another ten minutes out of your evening! and we can argue about whos turn it is to choose the movie without making a public scene  ;-p

You do indeed look happy :D now get back to wiring up my pedals, shoo

Lovely car but getting in and out looks like a pain. If I managed to get in one I think I'd be there awhile ;)

No criticism here!

I only changed my lifestyle because I found out I'm diabetic - if it wasn't for that, I'd probably not be exercising (although I always did that a bit, albeit at ever-widening intervals...) and I'd still be getting fatter.  And yes, I really enjoyed pies too!

I certainly don't find my life now any more enjoyable than my life before.  It's hard work.  But I do kind of like being skinny again.

I would be really interested in seeing the full (and rather legendary) Philly Q "under the bed guitar catalogue". Any chance you can sum up all the goodies you keep, Philly?

There's a picture of me at my brother's wedding. I'll have been 19 or 20 then and I was just under 13st. He was looking through the pics recently and genuinely didn't recognise me in it (I had jet black hair then too...).

That was cross country biking every day... Up until I had the epiphany one winter of, why am I doing this?! I don't enjoy it. So I stopped. I suppose at that point it was to offset the copious amounts of beer I was drinking and the general lifestyle of someone in their early 20's (trying to be more attractive to pull girls).

It'd be nice to be as fit as that again to be fair, but it took a lot of effort and I really didn't enjoy it at all. I've always been happier when I've been bigger... I probably should get another bike though, and get my finger out as I am a properly fat bar-steward now and it won't be doing my health any good. That and I have no intention of stopping eating pie.

I'm not working at the moment so I'm not sure I have any real excuse not to... Bugger!

Pah ;) I think they'll be done for next week.

You get in and out through the top... Thankfully no one had a video camera when it happened

I'm already feeling a bit guilty about taking this venerable thread way off-topic!

In any case, I'd never be able to list all of it without doing some kind of inventory.  There are bridges and tuners and things I know I've got but can't find, but then again I often stumble on things I don't ever remember buying!  But still, it might be a lot less stuff than people imagine.  Or maybe a lot more.  I like to preserve an air of mystery!

In-laws just rang me, John :D

I've never found a skinny girl attractive, quite nauseating, actually and the sensible females I know feel the same about men. It's 'cause of all the propaganda from the clothing companies to save on material costs. Oh, great the biggest jean size you sell is a 32"? of-course it is.
