(Almost) NGD! Warmoth + Piledrivers!
« on: October 01, 2008, 09:40:56 PM »
Hey guys! Warmoth neck just arrived and will fit the W body that is lying here since january from the last year...
Specs:
Alder body with Spalted Maple top
Wenge neck with Macassar Ebony fingerboard and headstock veneer, fatback.
Piledriver set and 4way switch
Glendale cold rolled steel vintage double cut bridge with compensate saddles.

What is making it take longer to get together:
I've used the four screw from the neckplate to fit the bridge, without notice  So I had to order some more, as well as the pots... The ones I've now came from BKP, but they were too short for this guitar, so I ordered from Warmoth...
The nut will be made on next tuesday, when I'm going to SP in a friend's workshop to make it... Fossilized Mammoth Ivory
Also waiting for a test with super glue and epoxy over Stainless Steel to try to cover the custom neckplate draws, to help it don't rust so easy...

Here you go pictures  8)

Hope you all enjoy, specially Roobubba

Wow, amazing woods Fernando!   :D

I like the look of the Glendale bridge too, I'm thinking of getting one of those sometime.

Have you had a Fatback neck before?  I like fat necks, but I wonder if it might be a bit too much?

The headstock is nasty (the shape) but i actually quite like the body on this one.  I am only a selective Tele appreciator (this forum HAS changed me) but most of them are shite to my eyes.  It would look miles better if there was none of that Tele bridge and pickup disgustingness on there and instead it had humbuckers.  All Tele's should have humbuckers because they look shitee to begin with, but at least with humbuckers they have some redeemable qualities.

Thanks again!!! :D

Phill, never had, but I have a LP (lend to my brother ATM) which was perhaps fatter than this one... Actually it feels not as fat as I thought it would be, but it has no strings yet, etc... But I understand you, I was under the same fear, but the closest that they have of fat (1" = 25,4mm) is the '59 which is WAY thinner on the first frets, 21.85mmm which is thinner than the Strat I've build and I feel like "model thin"... If you don't fear loose the guarantees, I would get the Fatback and if it's too fat, ask to Jonathan to re-shape it a little... I'm 99% right about it's okay, don't think the truss rod channel is different in each neck back, so this means you can go safe 'till 18.7mm at 1st fret and 20.7mm at12th fret  That's the measures of their Wizard neck (should be called Pinky Witch neck)...
:D

Yeah, I was considering the '59 or SRV shapes.  I don't mind if the neck is thin near the nut, but I like it to be fat at the 12th fret - more of a tapered shape, rather than all the same thickness.  Then again, I don't really mind any shape, as long as it's rounded - I don't like a flat back or, at the other extreme, a hard V shape.

I'm really having trouble deciding on this neck!  :x

Get the '59 :D It's about .5mm thicker in the nut...

Nice one Fernando, do you have a picture of the back of the neck? I'm guessing that's a Warmoth Pro, personally I would have gone for a vintage modern as I love skunk stripes, but not everyone agrees 8)
