Total information in www has made this kind of redundant ... unfortunately?

Yeah.  I don't know how I'd cope without the internet nowadays, but I do sometimes feel nostalgic for the days when you had to wait for things, or make a trip to the library to research something.  And the days when a TV show was only on once and you couldn't record it, so everyone would be watching at the same time.

A bit of patience and anticipation is good.

I used to when it still covered Metal bands, but I'm sick of that gimp from Fall Out Boy staring out at me from the racks these days. I've not read Kerrang in years but I still buy Metal Hammer and Terrorizer.

Ooh - i used to buy it every month/fortnight/week (they added more issues as it grew in popularity)from issue 2 onwards.
It was great back in 1981 till about 1990
I went to see a lot of bands on the strength of an article or review.
I got to know which writers I shared tastes with : Dante Bunotto, Howard Johnson etc
Some reviewers gave reviews that did make you wonder if they were at the same gig.

I lost interest once the Grunge and Nu Metal took over
Thankfully at the time RAW and Metal Hamster still had some of what I liked in them
Now I don't even recognise the bands in Kerrang at all.

I sometimes buy Classic Rock mag but tend to look on the net for info , but i do miss out on gigs sometimes which wouldnt have happened in the old days of Kerrang

i know what you're saying, but to be honest, it's a lot handier the way it is now. i mean, apart from anything, now you have the choice- you can still watch that TV program on the first day it's released, like you used to (i'm just old enough that i can remember the days before VCRs, PCs, the internet etc.), but if you miss it, now you have some form of comeback whereas before you were screwed.

plus you can still be screwed nowadays if you're as disorganised as i am. i almost came a cropper about a year ago when i missed a couple of episodes of Lost and 24. i certainly wasn't thinking, "ooh, isn't this nice, this brings you back!"... i was pretty pissed off...

Now that is a BIG problem for me now... It never used to happen when I got a mag like K or RAW but where do you look for that little tip off about a small or one off gig. The net doesn't work that way.

I tuned out at the same time as most of you and for the same reason.

Yeah, exactly.  On the net you only really look at what specifically interests you, whereas I used to just skim through the news pages or even the gig ads at the back of Kerrang and occasionally spot something unmissable.

I still get emails from Ticketmaster etc, but does anyone bother to read them?  I usually delete without even opening them.

I really don't like karrang. I suppose its mostly due to the fact i don't listen to any of the bands they feature. But what killed it for me was that god awful Iron Maiden tribute album.

I've never liked or bought Kerrang! Personally, I always go for Classic Rock. That's where it's at.

I disagree. Through forums I hear about far more gigs that interest me than I see in the magazines I buy. Plus every time I see a gig or tour listed in Terrorizer or Zero Tolerance that I fancy I already know about it from the internet.

I never really liked Kerrang much back in the day and when metal took a nose-dive in popularity around '94 it got worse - all you got was all that post-punk cr@p (Fat Wreck Chords anyone?).

Metal Hammer was my mag of choice back in the late 80s/early 90s, as was 'Raw' and occasionally 'Hit Parade' had some decent stuff in.

All I buy now is Terroriser (actually I subscribe, but same thing).  Their reviews are right on the money and I find that their 8/10 (or more) reviewed albums are typcially very, very good - I've got into bands on the strength of their reviews and am rarely dissappointed.

case in point, a band called 'Trap Them' were on their cover-mounted CD and I've since tracked down some of their stuff which I'm really digging.

Metal Hammer was pretty cool. Been getting worse and worse over the years though, and I can't say I've picked up a copy since god knows when...
