Celestion solder only tag panels?
« on: January 14, 2009, 04:33:24 PM »
I've just bought 2 celestion heritage g12h30 speakers, and all previous speakers I have installed have just had the normal tags that you can slot on. But these have solder only tag panels. How exactly do you wire them up? Is it just a case of slotting the wires onto the tags of the speaker and then soldering that, or do I need to use a different type of wire without tags on the end?

Cheers for any help

Same wire. Just remove the tags, strip off a little bit of insulation and solder to the appropriate tag on the speaker !

Its just a connection for electricity. You can connect two things in many different ways. Personally I prefer soldering to push-fit connectors on speakers.

I never trust spade (push-on) terminals on speakers. I always solder em. A tranny amp may be able to cope with the impedance change if one of em comes off mid-gig, but not many valve amps would like it at all.

Nah I got mine from lean-business. I decided to solder them all in the end aswell cos when I opened it up some of the tags we're close to falling off by themselves. Thanks for the help guys.

while you're at it, replace the speaker wire with something beefier - you will notice an improvement in the tone (not massive, but certainly noticeable imo).  I just use the Van Damme speaker cable from Maplins, it's nice stuff and only around £1.50/metre
