The Flying V ones were really nice guitars made by Case Guitars - Tim borrowed one for a while - they all had BK pickups on them (with a wierd back height adjust option.  I know the one he tried used the hipshot Grand Piano bridge.  They didn't have anything molded into them (they were opposite Feline and behind BK at LGS2007).
Yes, that was what I was thinking off, don't remember the one's Johnny means...

I need Afghan or Jonathon to chime in here!

Yeah - John Case was opposite me
Nice guy and some nice guitars - he's also a good graphic artist too

I know Tim tried the hollow V - not sure if he kept it
I too thought it was interesting although unusual
The odd f hole may have been a knot in the wood to start with but it was a charming feature.

I also had Dave Sharp from Northumberland next to me at this show with his unusual guitars

I think they built a fort like structure for their demo guy to stand in/on and play widdly guitar solos

It did have a fort on the display but none of the guitars on the site ^ above are the ones that made me feel nauseous and they aren't too nice looking.

Roo, if you don't like designs of the fifties and you don't like pointy stuff either, better stop playing ANY electric guitar. Apart from the pointy and horny designs, all guitar shapes are designed in the fifties. Les Pauls, Strats, Teles, V's, Explorers etc.

Of course everything is always built on what has gone before, but my main gripe with those Gretsch guitars is that they are stuck in the 50s!!

I think that's kind of the point!

And Gibson and Fender aren't?

Let's go through the gretsch catalogue. The Tennessee Rose line are all sixties guitars and so are all the double cut guitars. The corvette is also 60's. The Power Jet is a fifties guitar with modern upgrades, as are the Setzer models, the Billy-Bo is brand new, the 125th Anniversary is brand new.

If Gretsch is stuck in the fifties, then so are all the other companies.

For guitars, I'm stuck in the 50's and early 60's - and proud of it

For guitar sounds I'm stuck in the 50's - 70's...

Alas this means the only companies likely to get my money are those similarly stuck in those years... or those that are pandering to the tastes of me and thousands like me...

Ah well, I don't really approve of this thread cos it proves nothing except negative things about all of us , but it's a good read none-the-less :D

LOL that Billy Bo is designed to look like it's stuck in the 50s!!! That's exactly my point! Hideous! F holes are for violins, violas, cellos and double basses, I'm afraid. I can't stand the sight of them on guitars!

Telecaster. There's just nothing they could have done to make it more ugly. Except maybe put a naked picture of Rosie on there but that would only uglify it slightly. I actually really dislike the shape of Roo's baritone as well but the woods look gorgeous.

The only "pointy" guitar I like is the Carvin V220, but since I cut my hair and look fairly respectable (read: ordinary) now, it doesn't seem right for me to play a flamboyant guitar. For the longest time I hated everything about strats with a passion. Now I realized it's mostly the sound and bulky bolt-on neck heal I dislike, not the appearance. Maybe it comes from watching Yngwie, but I actually like the way it looks. I like some superstrats, but really pointy ones like the RG look too... impersonal... for me. Especially with a floyd rose.
