Live outside london and you can still get there in under 2 hrs from almost 2/3 of the country so when you need the bustle it's there.

For teaching London allowance is circa £6000 which covers around £75 /week after tax so difference is around £80 week in pocket.

And bar man? :(

For bar staff it is probably as easy to live near london as any where else the tips are higher and jobs easier to come by which somewhat compensates for the higher prices as long as you live off the best commuter routes which if your working bar hours is easier.

Other than that better in other big cities some bars and clubs like to recruit foreign staff as it fits their profile of being exotic. Sorry if I have made the wrong assumption from your handle Fernando  :)

I'm not really exotic looking (said by europeans I met in my trip in London), in deed they stared at me with a "wtf" face when I said I was brazilian

And I got a portuguese nationality, what I think makes things easier...
Do you have idea how much is the weekly payment now a days at bar staff? I say bar staff because I only have experience in work in industry and don't intend to keep on this, so that would probably the kind of job I would be able to get in the beggining...

I love London with all my heart.

North London is nicest imo, Muswell Hill/Highgate/Hampstead/Finchley/Hendon that whole area is lovely.

They're the nice bits of North London, don't mention Ponders End, Edmonton and Tottenham!

What's your point? You don't have to live in the shite parts :p

That North London isn't the nicest part, not by a long shot
Finchley has a serious Chav problem, Hendon is surrounded by some of the busiest roads in the Uk, M1, A1, A41 and the North Circ'
Hampstead has the worst School run 4x4 problem in the country, full of pretentious tossers.
SW London pisses over the North.
Muswell Hill is nice though. Highgate is too small.

Re: London.

Riddle me this. How can a country with so many caribbean islanders and africans not be able to come up with one reggae radio station? A billion reggae fiends and no decent irations.

In the middle of Babylon and all the radio seemed to play was Girls Aloud and mall rap.

A billion?  :?

I should think there is a reggae radio station somewhere.  But I'm not going looking for it.  :|

You could come and hang around in my neighbours' garden if you like reggae that much.  :P

Well it's all subjective isn't it? This isn't about some "REP UR ENDZ" shite, christ. Hendon is a bit of a shitehole though. I live in Palmers Green which is absolutely lovely, going further north you have winchmore hill, also lovely, enfield town is alright, c--kfosters/whetstone/friern barnet are all a bit of a dump, but again, you don't need to live in these places.

I think the "point" of the "nice parts of N. London vs. shite parts of N. London" comments is just to say that it's not all the same.  London's a funny place.  You can have a lovely area that's just a stone's throw from a mini Beirut full of nutters and horrible old tower blocks.  Which might be worth knowing for someone who's moving from another part of the country.

And it's stating the obvious, but it costs to live in the nice parts.

wtf is "REP UR ENDZ" when its at home?

Palmers Green = absolutely lovely?  :?

Subjective? Not really no.

My original point was SW London, Richmond, Teddington ect. Go and have a look at the Thames down there and you will see what I mean.

Were you wearing that hat though Fernando? The hat makes you exotic :P

I hope you aren't saying Londoners are Europeans

Europeans I mean:
1) the people I met at english school in london (switzerlanders, italians, germans, czechs...)
2) people at the pub in london (WRC2007 England x France, the frenchs came to say "congrats" when England won the game)
3) people trying to speak with me in german/dutch in Amsterdam

you could easily be italian, i'd say... anyway the image we foreigners have got of brazil is the wild mixture of races that make those girls so damn hot (:haha:), but many brazilians look just like their european ancestors (including the multitude of nazi refugees...  :)), so it's no surprise...

If you live in London, where is Palmers Green? I lived in Streatham and Oval areas (SE London) and the Jamaicans complained (along with me) about the lack of reggae on the radio.

They're was one I found I while ago, but i'm not sure if they're still broadcasting. There are a hell of a lot of pirate dance music stations.

Palmers Green is N13. As the crow flys, about 8 miles north of Shoreditch. Follow Green Lanes from Newington Green, Islington and you'll get there.
