I turned 16 in 1981 and my previous taste in bands had been Queen, Kiss, T Rex, Slade, Bowie (and Whitesnake, UFO, Deep Purple, Fleetwood Mac) etc and My friend bought Motley's Too Fast For love on the indie Leathur label and OMG - for the next 10 years I was a Sunset Strip addict, and other bands that followed in the wake of that scene
The original mix of Too fast for Love is way better than the remix on Electra by Roy Thomas Baker
Get a copy of Music to Crash Your Car To to hear it in it's proper form - freaking awesome!
From there I got into Ratt, Dokken, Black N Blue, Great White, Teeze, WASP, (Van Halen), Warrant,King Kobra, Sweet Savage, Poison, Bulletboys, Bon Jovi, Skid Row, Cinderella, Britney Fox, Guns N Roses, LA Guns, Faster Pussycat, Extreme, Vixen, Cheap Trick, Kix etc etc.
There was a ton of great music from thse "glam" bands.
Sadly the record labels got lazy and were signing anything with eyeliner and hairspray and consequently the scene got stale and in the end many were glad for the change of scene that grunge brought in.
Whilst I admired some bands like Nirvana, Peral Jam and Soundgarden I resented and loathed that they spelt the death knell for the bands I loved and I hated the serious crimes against fashion that grunge and later Nu Metal brought in.
Life has been perfect and peachy with girls in skimpy tops, short skirts , fishnest , high heels or cowboy boots.
Suddenly they were in Doc Martens, and lumberjack shirts with wallet chains
