I've had general anaesthetic a few times, I don't think there's much risk to a young, healthy person. It'll literally be over before she knows it. :)
It's actually quite good fun waking up - you feel like you're coming round quite quickly, but when you think about it afterwards you realise you can't really remember it properly at all. Like a waking dream.
My experience is saying "all right, it's ok" and then opening the eyes more than 3 hours late, they used a bucked of anaesthesic as I'm the size of a Rhino  The reason why I was saying alright, fat people is harder to hit the nerve to give the local anesthesic... But no big deal to me...
Everything is going to be alright, the better thing you can do is trust on the doctor and try to keep calm (or look)... The worst thing ever is everybody nervous when you're going to be cut, so keep it cool for your Mrs :D
Everything is gonna be alright, but I'm thinking on you and your Mrs! :)
