Hi Everyone,
I am looking for some help to decide on which amp I should buy.... I have a budget of £2k (but may be able to stretch to about £2300, but I may get the silent treatment from my better half!) which needs to cover amp head and cab. I play mostly classic rock and Doom (not sludgy Doom) and my axe is a Gibson Les Paul. I tune all strings down a full step. Being based in Belfast, there is a limited number of amps I can try, as most guitar shops only stock a limited choice.
So far i have had/tried the following, which haven't done it for me:
- Blackstar Series One (too out and out metal)
- Mesa Dual Rec (too American sounding)
- Orange Rockerverb 50 (not sure it's got enough low end focus with only being 50 watts)
I am really only after an amp that has one great rock sound, which needs to be a british voicing. I don't need reverb, effects loops, scooped mids etc. etc.... but it would be great if the amp had the ability to be biased by myself. On my most wanted list are the following, but i have never been able to try them:
- Egnater Tourmaster (possibly over complicated with 4 channels)
- Rockerverb 100 (with DIVO fitted)
- Marshall YJM100
I would be very grateful for any advice on the above, or any other amps... The sound i have in my head is Zakk era Ozzy, but to be honest i think £1250 is too expensive for a JCM 800 reissue and I am not keen on buying a second hand amp.
