The EVH Flange and Phase are pretty cool though.
never actually tried them
This is a good point, and has convinced me not to buy one of these.
(Which, on the other hand, is nonsense, as none of my guitars will ever be seen on a stage, so I might as will have an entire collection of EVH signatures, Zakk Wylde Les Pauls and John Birch Super Yobs.... but whatever.)
yeah same here  Well... never say never, but at the moment anyway i'm not gigging.
Think that only rings true for sig guitars that are highly personalised visually speaking? I've owned a number of sigs over the years, the first because it was Joe Satrianis sig, then after that because i genuinely felt they were awesome guitars in their own right. The Satriani was a JS1000 with the black pearl finish, which was actually pretty nondescript, it didn't scream "SATRIANI SIG". The Chromeboy is a different matter, although i wouldn't say no to one.. Actually these days I'd give my left nut for one of the original JS1 sigs in white or black. BTW i thought the JS1000 was a cracking guitar.
I've technically had 2 VH sigs, i had the peavey wolfgang, and I currently have an axis, which are great guitars in isolation from VH. I wasn't keen on the wolfie because it was a VH sig actually, but once i played it, I traded an ESP MkII for it. Will always regret letting that wolfie go. With the Axis, i think enough time has passed to allow it to be disassociated with VH. These days the story is that the body shape had already been designed before VH got involved. Haven't played the fender EVH sig, always just preferred the Peavey wolfie.
And i also currently own a kotzen tele, yes it has gold hardware, but it's actually not garish. and you wouldn't look at it and think "Richie Kotzen". in fact i had no idea it was a kotzen sig the first time i tried one out, just realised it was a great guitar. then i found it was RK's sig, was a rare case of the guitar getting me into the player rather than liking the player and wanting the guitar.
