I hope it's better than Megadeth's album of the same name......

I think Megadeth's 13 is a great album!

I have to be totally honest, Alex, I've never even heard Megadeth's 13.  I have all their other albums, but I haven't liked the last few and I'm not at all a fan of Chris Broderick.  I was just seizing an opportunity for a bit of gratuitous bitching....

I feel the same regarding Broderick. I also disliked Grover but i appreciate him a lot more now that we have Brodericks tasteless playing in the band. No feel at all.

In regards to 13 i wanted to like it. I really did but the entire album just seems like filler apart from the tracks that were old demos from past albums. Oh and public enemy number one which is just a rehash of the system has failed era

Yeah, it sounds good - but impossible to draw any conclusions!

Speaking of classic (albeit slightly more youthful) melodic metal, I'm looking forward to the new Spiritual Beggars album in a couple of weeks.

Ah, but it's all to build the anticipation, isn't it? ;)

it's slightly concerning to me that two of the albums i'm most looking forward to this year are by Black Sabbath and Deep Purple.  The only other one i can think of are Monster Magnet, who have "only" been going about 25 years

No cause for concern there!  I still like to think I'm maintaining a tenuous link with the modern world by being into Clutch.

Do you actually like the Morse-era Deep Purple?  I've got a few of the albums but can never really get into them, they've moved away from hard rock but it's not exactly prog, it's..... I don't know what  :? .  I've heard the new album is "going to be good", but who knows really.....

And Monster Magnet!  It's ages since I listened to them.  Loved the first few albums, but I've gradually lost interest since the turn of the century.

Love Magnet. I think their only weak album is God Says No, and it ain't bad. Mastermind is really strong and worth a buy.

As is Earth Rocker from Clutch for those that haven't picked it up yet. Bwaaahahahahahaha!

I was going to type the same thing. I had a listen to that recently because I couldn't remember just how bad it was and yeah.....it's truly awful.

Their new single God Is Dead is actually pretty good. Don't like the vocals, but Tony's playing is, as always, fantastic. Love a few of the riffs. Geezer sounds great too, and Brad isn't bad. The mix is actually very good, I love the amount of Geezer I'm hearing. No need to fret, this won't be a Death Magnetic sequel for Rubin. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album!

After the 6 minute mark it got interesting, everything before that bored the cr@p out of me.

theres a youtube link for it.

you can hear the autotune on Ozzy's voice I reckon, sucks the life out of it in my opinion.. the middle part of the track is a little boring i think, but overall its not bad!

Definitely picked up the pace a bit when they switched to that really swinging riff, wish they woulda used it more. Had a really cool "Fairies Wear Boots" feel to it, and that's one of my favorite Sabbath tunes. I feel like Brad coulda done better in that part though, Bill definitely had more of a jazzy, swingy feel to him.

Just listened to the single. Vocals sound weird. Bill sorely missed. Reminds me of hearing Doom and Gloom by The Stones - not bad but kind of tired sounding and not a patch on the glory days. Curious about the rest of the album.

Ozzy is done, I prefer to remember them as they were: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPSnxkqJtco
